After my discussion earlier in the week about flags, I decided to compile some of the more neutral ones, plus a few I came up with, into a manageable format so it can be much easier to use them. You could even assign a color to each player so you can know who marked each one and use it as a group flag sheet. That way everyone has access to each other’s flags. If you guys have any suggestions or new flags feel free to comment them. I’m not promising I’ll put everything in or make every change, but I would like to hear your thoughts!

I also wanted to thank Steve Mains Daniel Fowler Richard Rogers & Ferrell Riley for their input on the original post.

Wizard’s Spectacles

Everyone knows the life of a Wizard is full of books, tomes, scrolls, journals and any other object that can be written upon. So was the life of Zorandus the Shortsighted. He was well known for his less than adequate vision, so he took it upon himself to craft some magical glasses that would give him vision as sharp as an eagle! Unfortunately his vision was so bad that he misread the instructions for enchanting them and fell down the stairs during testing. But fortunately for anyone who finds these glasses, their magical properties might still be of use!

The Wizard’s Spectacles gain 3 hold at the beginning of each day, replacing any hold they had the previous day. Anyone who wears the glasses may spend the hold. You may use the hold to perform any of the following actions:

• Detect Magic as the Wizard spell.

• Read magical writing as if it was in your native tongue.

• Identify a magical item.

The spectacles will only function if both lenses are intact and they are only as durable as a normal pair of glasses. They also seem to have the adverse side effect of causing gradual degradation in vision over time. Any hold you use causes you to gain 1 hold. If you gain 3 hold your vision becomes impaired . If you gain 6 hold you are effectively blind. You lose a hold for every day you go without using the Wizard’s Spectacles.

I was curious what other GMs in the community were known for putting into their games frequently.

I was curious what other GMs in the community were known for putting into their games frequently. Basically if someone plays your game, they expect to see these things pop up somewhere every time.

Mine are: Mimics, lycanthropes, airships, redeemable villains, dinosaurs, a wizard inspired by Professor Farnsworth (oh my, yes), portable towers, and undead.

Edit: Oh and at least one very likeable NPC that has a lot of depth and the party keeps around for a while, if not the whole campaign.

Edit #2: And minotaurs… and gnolls lol

Has anyone compiled or written a list of flags that can be used in place of bonds?

Has anyone compiled or written a list of flags that can be used in place of bonds? I mainly want a list for my players to either pick from or draw inspiration from.

I know not everyone will care, but just to put it out there, Warcraft was AMAZING!

I wanted to share this with the community. I came up with it to try and help someone on the Dungeon World Tavern, but I thought it might help someone out if they miss it there. Of course, if anyone has any ideas on how to improve the move, your feedback is welcome.

Giant Monster Combat

When your group takes a course of action against a monster far larger than reason, tell the GM what your party’s plan is. If the GM agrees your plan could work, then you may roll+STAT and describe what you do to make that plan happen. On a 10+, choose 2. On a 7-9, choose 1:

– You hinder the monster in some way, temporarily disable one of its moves, slow it down, distract it, etc.

– You set a piece of the plan into motion to bring the creature down, gain 1 hold.

– You avoid causing any collateral damage.

– You are not severely injured in your attempt.

On a 6- lose one hold in addition to whatever the GM says. Hold that you gain is communal. Anytime another player gains hold they are combined together. You can spend spend 1 hold at any time to injure one of its body parts, preventing it from using that body part to perform any of its moves, as well as anything else it would be prevented from doing by the fiction. You can use 3 hold at any time to cause your grand plan to come to a close, bringing about your initial desired outcome.

I enjoyed a fun session this weekend where I got to play the unassumingly awesome Human playbook. We had a great time even though there was a troll we couldn’t kill (recurring villain anyone?). The bit I wanted to highlight was my friend (the GM) adding a bit to the Dungeon Crawl move we use based on Jason Cordova’s move. He added that, if we wanted to roll to explore the dungeon and gain hold after someone else just did, that he would add something in that we see or encounter. Once it was a room we came into, another time it was that we heard beastmen coming and we decided to hide and let them pass by. His reasoning was that the cave is more populated and we wouldn’t really wander around long before coming across enemies. We didn’t mind, and it did make us decide to find what we were looking for a lot more quickly than usual. It seemed more dangerous to stay and keep looking for treasure. What do you guys think of this approach and do you recommend any other method to deal with areas that are more populated with enemies? I considered stacking cumulative -1 modifiers to back to back rolls, but I wanted to get feedback from the community also.

So I’ve been on a kick of making Compendium Classes lately (since I think there are enough regular classes to cover most ideas). I have one pseudo-completed (Demon Hunter) and I’m working on another (The Chosen). My question is, if I keep going, how many do you think would be ideal for a Compendium Collection and what would a price point look like if I decide to put them on DriveThruRPG or something? Also if anyone wants to throw out ideas for a CC I might try to make them if I have some good ideas for them.

So I’m looking for advice from you guys on a subject in which I have little knowledge.

So I’m looking for advice from you guys on a subject in which I have little knowledge. The only super hero rpg I’ve played was Mutants & Masterminds. That system used conditions in place of standard hit points. My question is, what do other super hero systems use to track health and what do you guys think are the best methods for doing so? Do you think hit points could work if done properly? Also, is there a pbta system out there that handles an Avengers-like setting well? I’ve heard Masks is good for teenage super heroes, but I’m wanting to run an established group of heroes.
