Hey, Gauntleteers!

Hey, Gauntleteers!

Hey, Gauntleteers! I’m going to repeat an offer I made last year. There’s a week left for Game of the Year submissions for The Gauntlet Podcast – if you have a favorite game you played in 2018, but don’t feel comfortable recording your submission for ANY reason, feel free to post a comment here with a paragraph or two about it, and I will read it for the episode.

If you’re not comfortable expressing your game love in English, hit me up and I’ll find someone to translate!

I’m offering the MASHED RPG at a special 40.77% off during National EMS Week, which is today through May 26th! I know several gamers and MASHED players and/or contributors who are EMS affiliated, and it’s worth remembering this week for them. Enjoy!

Since I regularly play Hangouts games away from home, I decided to pick up a headset so I wouldn’t have to set up a fancy mic and try to get it close enough to my mouth to not be echoey. This one is barely over 20 bucks on Amazon, and has been performing well for a few months.

The two episodes of Gauntlet Podcasts I’ve listened to this week were both great – actionable advice about playing and running games, and also the ever lovely “smart people talking about things they’re passionate about” nerd joy.

I’ll be honest, I don’t often listen to episodes of The Gauntlet podcast once they’re on the feed because I’m the editor and, well, I’ve generally heard every word (and more) quite a few times before it goes up. But this week, I made an exception, specifically to relisten to the excellent discussion about open-table campaign play resulting from Lowell Francis’s quarter-long game of Mutant Year Zero. His takeaways, and the contributions made by Jason Cordova and Kyle Thompson were exemplary: useful, humble, and thoughtful.

I do regularly listen to +1 Forward in the feed, because my ears haven’t already been taken hostage by it, and this week’s episode on Player Agendas and Principles proved quite rewarding. Rach Shelkey and Richard Rogers really put in the work, and their combined experience and smarts created a thing that should spark thoughts for me and others for some time to come.

Dreams to all.

Hey, all!

Hey, all!

Hey, all! If you DIDN’T get a chance to submit an audio contribution for the Gauntlet Podcast “Favorite Game of 2017” episode, I’d love to hear from you hear about what RPG product grabbed your heart, mind or imagination the most in 2017. How about… name of the game, one sentence explanation of why?

I’m thinking I’ll make a recording of these to make the current 19 (!) contributions into a more divisible 20. Feel free to respond if you don’t want me to mention you, just tell me not to record, or to keep it anonymous.

On Episode 121 of The Gauntlet, Richard Rogers mentioned a “love letter” I wrote inspired by Mark Causey’s delightful Monsterhearts game during Gauntlet Con. It’s not so much fan fiction as it is a way to capture that “Starting the Second Season of a show, after EVERYTHING changed in the First Season finale”…

This is an un-tested alpha version of a set of procedures I’m calling “The Second Season.” Enjoy, if you want!

I just posted a few dreams in the “dreams for GMs” thread that Kate Bullock initiated, but I really have to add one more, for a player, not a GM.

Lauren McManamon is the only person I know that can say “awesome,” “so good,” and “intense” as many times in any given time period as she does, and you just know she’s sincere EVERY time.

And she plays the shit out of games.
