After my discussion earlier in the week about flags, I decided to compile some of the more neutral ones, plus a few I came up with, into a manageable format so it can be much easier to use them. You could even assign a color to each player so you can know who marked each one and use it as a group flag sheet. That way everyone has access to each other’s flags. If you guys have any suggestions or new flags feel free to comment them. I’m not promising I’ll put everything in or make every change, but I would like to hear your thoughts!

I also wanted to thank Steve Mains Daniel Fowler Richard Rogers & Ferrell Riley for their input on the original post.

  1. Yeah, seriously awesome. I had a lot of those in a big ugly list, but this is really great. Some of them will really cause the players who are fishing for xp to do some very manipulative things, which I can see working really well for scenes.

  3. It’s been said before, but I’ll join the echochamber – this is awesome!  I heard about Flags on the podcast but hedn’t seen the list of them.  How do you think these will work for Monster of the Week?

  5. One of the design snags of MotW is the playbook histories (aka bonds) set up the group and are passive after the first game.  I like how Flags actively direct player behaviour.

  7. Jason Cordova just ran Monster Of The Week a few hours ago. Flags worked great, had to tweak a few to reinforce the Southern Gothic vibe.

  9. Heads up: we mentioned this on today’s episode of The Gauntlet Podcast. I tried to tag you, Scott, but you don’t have a pic on your profile, which makes it hard to determine which Scott Selvidge is the right one.

  11. I love this! Flags are something I like much better than Bonds and having them on a sheet at the table is excellent.

I have an idea though. What would everyone think of spaces instead of the check boxes? At the table this would make for one sheet with the whole groups’ choices on it. Everyone would then see what each character has all at once instead of having to constantly ask what particular character’s flags were when players are formulating interactions.

I hope that came across clear.

  13. We sort of do that at my table. We have our own sheets, to save from having to ask each other for the sheet constantly, and each person checks the box for their flag, but puts initials for anyone elses’ out in the space next to a flag so they know other peoples’.

  15. My players write them on the front of the index cards/name tents. So when your looking at the player there’s reminder text.

  17. Total tangent, apologies.

Shadownrun is 6th world. Earthdawn is 4th world. Both were brought to market by FASA back in the late 80’s early 90’s. Are they supposed to be fictionally in the same universe?
