I enjoyed a fun session this weekend where I got to play the unassumingly awesome Human playbook. We had a great time even though there was a troll we couldn’t kill (recurring villain anyone?). The bit I wanted to highlight was my friend (the GM) adding a bit to the Dungeon Crawl move we use based on Jason Cordova’s move. He added that, if we wanted to roll to explore the dungeon and gain hold after someone else just did, that he would add something in that we see or encounter. Once it was a room we came into, another time it was that we heard beastmen coming and we decided to hide and let them pass by. His reasoning was that the cave is more populated and we wouldn’t really wander around long before coming across enemies. We didn’t mind, and it did make us decide to find what we were looking for a lot more quickly than usual. It seemed more dangerous to stay and keep looking for treasure. What do you guys think of this approach and do you recommend any other method to deal with areas that are more populated with enemies? I considered stacking cumulative -1 modifiers to back to back rolls, but I wanted to get feedback from the community also.

  1. That sounds really interesting. I mean, the GM is still empowered to make his moves as he will. I don’t think the labyrinth move changes that.
