I’m particular happy with the posts I’ve put together this week and last. They’re all element & idea generators for particular games. That’s one of my favorite parts of Codex and I dig the brainstorming involved. This week I wrote two for Mutant: Year Zero including the 36 Mood Element post below. The others are:

Gauntlet GMing: Q & A & Beyond

I have a new GM Q& A event on the calendar for late February as part of our drive to help those thinking about running online– for The Gauntlet or anywhere else. February 24th 10 AM EST. I’m not a total expert, but I can help!

https://gauntlet-hangouts.firebaseapp.com/event-detail/-L2_iql8E-Y9if2Dpos3

A reminder: If you’d just like to talk one-on-one about these ideas, to hit me up and we’ll find a time. That’s for anything about running/playing online.

I’ll be there to answer questions about the process. If you’d like to talk about running, get technical advice, bounce around ideas, or hit related topics you can do that. Example Q’s:

*How do I set up an online game?

*What are best practices for running and recording?

*How do I post my game with the Gauntlet?

*Where can I find resources for running?

*What should I know before running for the Gauntlet?

If you’re interested, sign up. If you have questions you want answered, send them along. If you already run and want to talk about best practices, feel free to join us. We’ll do the event if we have at least one person signed up. I will record this for future reference. The event will run up to 90 minutes.

RPGs 2017: Cyberpunk to Steampunk to Westerns

I’m cataloging this year’s releases in genres I’ve covered in my RPG History posts. These basic lists are skeletons. I’ll do full posts throughout the year. More than anything I want to get a sense of how many games and supplements we saw in each category. This one covers Cyberpunk, Post-Apocalyptic, Steampunk & Victoriana, Supers, Universal, and Westerns. Give me a heads up if I’ve missed anything major.

DIGGING OUT

DIGGING OUT

DIGGING OUT

Let me give you another reason to consider running games for the Gauntlet (or elsewhere online).

Take a look around if you’re at home. Perhaps go to another room where you have your shelves. Maybe you can check your pdf folders. Or scan your DriveThru library for things you haven’t yet downloaded.

How many games do you have that you’ve never gotten to the table? Even cut out the ones you’re just slightly interested in. I’d be willing to bet for a ton of you that’s a double-digit number. Maybe even the triple digits. Kickstarters, Bundles of Holding, free downloads, Black Friday sales—they all just look so cool. You want to try these games, but RPGs make that a challenge. Getting f2f pick up groups interested in a niche game isn’t easy—but online, that’s a different story.

This year I’ve cleared two dozen games off my list—playing or running for The Gauntlet. You can too.

Some of you have heard this before, but I want more GMs. I’m here to work with anyone who has thought about running games for The Gauntlet Hangouts (or anywhere online). We’re opening up new Patreon spots, so we’ll have more room and opportunities for GMs next year. I’ll be glad to talk with you one-on-one to…figure out technical issues; go over what you’re thinking about running; discuss technique; get advice about running online; break down your planning; look at online tools; tell me about what you dig about GMing; or talk you down from the panic ledge.

If you want advice, I’m glad help—but if you just want someone to listen, I’ll do that. I may not have all the info or specific game advice, but I’ll do my level best to help and direct you to folks who do have that.

You can email me or hit me up on Slack if you have questions or want to talk. If you’ve posted interested on one of my threads before, I’m going to hit you up next week to check in.

MORE GMS, MORE GMS

MORE GMS, MORE GMS

MORE GMS, MORE GMS

I want more GMs. I talked about that this week’s Podcast, but let me reiterate: I’m here to work with anyone who has thought about running games for The Gauntlet Hangouts (or anywhere online). We’re opening up new high-level Patreon spots end of the month, so we’ll have more room and opportunities for GMs next year.

I’ll be glad to talk with you one-on-one to…figure out technical issues; go over what you’re thinking about running; discuss technique; get advice about running online; break down your planning; look at online tools; tell me about what you dig about GMing; or talk you down from the panic ledge.

The best place to start, obviously, before you run games for The Gauntlet is playing our games. That way to get a sense of the table culture, structure, and approach. But once you do that and start thinking about running, I want to help. I want other people to be comfortable and have as great a time with the Gauntlet as I have.

You can email me or hit me up on Slack if you have questions or want to talk.

I’m taking November off from the blog to actually finish a couple of projects I’ve been working on. It’s sort of Nanowrimo…it counts, right? I’ve also pulled together a list of possible post topics for when I come back in December. If any are of special interest, leave me a comment.
