So I have a meat space DW in a few weeks – yeah found so,e gamers in north Houston. They will all be first time DW players so pressure is on. Most of the time I play with kids or others who have played DW. My style is pretty fluid.

Couple of questions

1 what is the immolator? I just listened to DR and saw link to recent playbooks. Mine are from sons ago, and didn’t have the immolator. What is this persons story or background flavor – I know all the other tropes.

2. What do you do when players run out of rations?

Listening to DR I think maybe some things I have missed in past play.

Peace,

Keeper of the Rose Warden’s Garden

  1. The Immolator is weird in that it’s not really a DnD trope. Not sure what the media touchstone is there. It’s a fun playbook, though.

Re rations: I start giving them Debilities. Can’t recall what the official rule is.

  3. Cool thanks. Is your story smith compendium class written down anywhere or in DR Annual? Was thinking to have it imstead of the bard. I also realized when the make camp they can’t heal.

  5. I may use it and ask a lot of a questions. I think one player may want to play something like that. I take it the Dangerous tag in the fire brand means Dangerous to others and the Immolator as well? Like he starts catching all kinds of shit of fire when he uses it if they don’t take that tag away. Or do you have it burn the immolator as she shapes the flames as a weapon.

  7. I also see running out of rations as a chance to trow a little trouble at them as they have to hunt. Depending on how much time you want to spend on it you can throw some side encounter for them to deal with, or just go round the table asking how they find food. Then boil it to a defy or hack roll..or even just cost some ammo or make a hard move.

And like Jason says, appropriate debility works great too. Sickened by scrounged food would make sense.

  9. Usually dangerous means it causes problems for the whole party. Like it gets out of hand and burns a friendly farmers house down, or catches a party member in the blast. It something to screw with them on a mid or fail generally

  11. Thanks all good ideas all around. Just wondering if there was some one sentence rule that I missed from main book. I have read it like 3 times all the way through but now tend to flip to certain sections. Some of the important stuff is buried in the front not where I expect it to be.

  13. We’ve had a lot of fun with the immolator class! They’re comparable to the fire benders from Avatar: the last Airbender; but not a very good one. They walk the line between feeling like a melee playbook and a spell-casting playbook. Try throwing elemental-turned monsters at them, and be prepared to add lots of fire-themed story consequences!

  15. Thanks parrish warren if my north Houston meatspace implodes, I will certaintly try it out. If I sill lived in montrose it would be easier for sure. I have hopes that I could end up trying to create a north Houston gauntlet meetup, but want to start small and go for the long game.
