Hey check out this kickstarter!

Hey check out this kickstarter! A cyberpunk game that’s actually got some faaairly trad mechanics but the themes are really cool. Hip-Hop cyberpunk sounds really cool and I like that they’re pretty integrated with a cool Chicago gaming group

Axon Punk: Overdrive, made by Wrong Brothers Gaming in conjunction with the Sugar Gamers, combines hip hop and classic cyberpunk to synthesize a tabletop Roleplaying Game where players improvise, collaborate, and develop a community together to oppose corporate oppression in the gritty megacities of 2085.

  1. I backed it, but at this point mostly for the music. I love great tracks for gaming, and especially things with beats. For example half the things on Faust and Shortees “Digital Soul” and DJ Spooky’s “Songs of a Dead Dreamer”

  3. Oh awesome! I liked that they’re consulting POC on it. Initially I was like..two white guys making a hip hop game… but seems like they’re pretty respectful about it and are doing what they should be as creators. I like these fictional stories they’re making as well. I’d be interested in more in depth thoughts from you and Hamish for sure, system wise stuff especially.

  5. I honestly don’t remember much hip-hop stuff when I playtested at Metatopia in Nov, but then again it was a short time slot and we were focusing on different system parts of the games that the creator wanted to test.

I think one of the interesting things, system-wise, is that one of the brothers is more indie game focused and the other is more DnD focused, so AxonPunk is kind of an interesting melding of the two types of systems, mechanically and RPly. I can’t really speak to if they /succeed/ in that, though, as it’s been so long I can’t really remember.
