Together we’re crowdsourcing the miscellany for Codex – Joy 2. This miscellany is called “Three Dozen Local Holidays and Celebrations.” Submissions need to be a single sentence, or 2-3 short sentences. By submitting here, you’re agreeing to let us use it (you’ll get a credit on the issue). We’re looking for evocative things; the purpose of the miscellany is to inspire the reader.

Here are some examples:

“Every year, folk hero Faina the False’s clever victory over the Hollow King’s army is commemorated with carved gourd soldiers and a fiercely competitive contest of tall tales. Expect no one participating in the festivities to speak a word of truth.”

“The last brief daylight before the dark winter months at Terminus Base used to be observed somberly, but it’s morphed into a day-long party with round-the-clock simulated daylight hiding the final sunset, generous alcohol rations, and no shortage of bad decisions.”

“The Velaris Belt is mostly uninhabited, but every third year it comes alive as the site of the former Kallix Company’s reunion. They gather in a swarm of mismatched ships to swap stories, revel in each other’s presence, and salute the ones who couldn’t return.”

P.S. If you want to be credited by something other than your G+ name, let me know!

Kia ora koutou!

Kia ora koutou!

Kia ora koutou!! Today is the first official day of Gauntlet Con and we have just a couple more fantastic guests to celebrate as we kick off, so I appreciate you bearing with me! We are so very pleased to have Julien Pouard, Jennifer Adcock, Jeremy Strandberg, and Katriel Page this year at Gauntlet Con!

Julien Pouard is definitely multiclassed : podcaster and game designer by night, teacher by day, and baking pastry in between. He lives in Paris suburb, France and often blesses the long commute that lets him daydream and work on his games. In June 2017 he self-published his first game (De Mauvais Rêves , about bad dreams) and is working on publishing a collection of hacks for the game later this year.

During Gauntlet Con, Julien will be running Standing Watch.

~~

Jennifer Adcock is an RPG designer, prose fiction writer, and blogger from Buffalo, NY. She believes in story above all, and has written for games as varied as Dungeons and Dragons, Costume Fairy Adventures, and Fiasco. She loves to introduce new gamers and long-timers alike to the wide world of indie games. You can support her work here: patreon.com/jenkatwrites.

During Gauntlet Con, Jennifer will be running D&D 5e: CLERIC CON LXXVII, and Costume Fairy Adventures: Swan Lark.

~~

Jeremy thinks way, way too much about Dungeon World and is endlessly working on his “hearth fantasy” DW hack, Stonetop. You can find him in the Dungeon World Tavern on G+ or at spoutinglore.blogspot.com. He lives in Madison, WI.

Jeremy will be running a three-part Stonetop series at Gauntlet Con.

~~

Katriel Paige tried playing D&D and roleplaying games in the 90s, but kept getting pushed away from the table. However, they never lost the passion for creating stories, and resumed playing in 2003 with D&D 3.5. Now, they play D&D 5e, have helped to copyedit the Emerald Spire Superdungeon (Pathfinder), and have most recently freelanced for Onyx Path (Night Horrors: the Tormented and Dystopia Rising: Evolution, as of now upcoming) and written a short story set in Freeport for Nisaba Press (as of now, upcoming).

During Gauntlet Con, Katriel will be running Chronicles of Darkness.

Codex Vol. 1 Kickstarter – Final Stretch Goals and Pledge Rewards Announced!

Codex Vol. 1 Kickstarter – Final Stretch Goals and Pledge Rewards Announced!

Codex Vol. 1 Kickstarter – Final Stretch Goals and Pledge Rewards Announced!

We are heading into the final stretch of our KS campaign! Today’s update revealed all the remaining stretch goals and pledge rewards. There are some awesome things to look forward to. Read the update (linked below) for all the details, but here is a glimpse:

Digital Stretch Goal #5: Catherine Ramen’s “Kingsport”

If we hit $23,000, Cat will write her Lovecraft-tinged Kingsport setting for Monsterhearts 2. It will feature Kingsport ’52 (think Red Scare, paranoia type stuff) and guidelines for exploring Kingsport through different time periods (such as Kingsport ’76, Kingsport 1692, and more!).

Digital Stretch Goal #6: Fraser Simons‘s “Snow Falling on Chrome”

If we hit $25,000, Fraser will write a campaign starter inspired by Blade Runner for his popular Powered by the Apocalypse cyberpunk game, The Veil!

Digital Stretch Goal #7: Lauren McManamon and I’s The Mercy Falls Campaign

This is the big one. If we hit $30,000, Lauren and I will write a full campaign setting for Mercy Falls, WA, location of our popular actual plays on Pocket-Sized Play. It will include system-agnostic details (maps, locations, NPCs) plus guidelines for using different games (MH2, The Final Girl, Cthulhu Dark, and more) to explore aspects of the town’s history and culture. Essentially, you’ll be able to create your own version of Mercy Falls.

We also have awesome new game runner pledge rewards from Tom McGrenery and Tyler Lominack. You can play WFRP 1e with Tom or Monster of the Week with Tyler.

Check it out and please re-share!

I have a new post up over at Age of Ravens. I look at the icon mechanics from 13th Age, why I like them, and how they could be ported over to other games. We created our own set of icons with our Microscope world building and I have a follow up post coming which showcases what we came up with.

My name’s Liam, but feel free to call me Comeau! I’m an autistic Canadian game designer and actual player based in Edmonton, who hopes (even in spite of G+ closing down soon) to share; provoke, and take away some real interesting thought from this lovely dialogic community!

It’s not much, currently, but here’s the majority of what I’ve been putting on the back-burner at the moment! If any of it interests you, feel free to yell at me about it or whatever! Of note is my moderately-assembled PbTA game based off Suda51’s No More Heroes, ASSASSIN WORLD.
