The LYD

The Little Yappy Dog

1 weight, obnoxious

Seriously who brings a tiny little dog on an adventure? Maybe a Princess or one of those fancy Bards with their outlandish clothes. You know how entertainers are. Wolves and attack bogs I can see but this thing just yaps and eats. Bah!

When you are carrying the LYD you must consume an extra ration whenever you would normally consume one (or none due to class abilities). When you Make Camp or are bedded down for the night the LYD acts as an Alarm spell (as per the wizard 1st level spell) with a range of Near.

The LYD can also be used by the GM as a complication for any 6 or less result that would be appropriate.

Besides the inherent value of this list, I think it’s great this article was posted on Pop Culture Uncovered, a general interest geek culture website. It’s awesome to see games by marginalized creators getting wider recognition!

Dreams!

Dreams!

Dreams! share them! I love to hear everyone who has them for everyone and everything Gauntlet is doing at this time!!!!

My dreams to josh gary who ran an outstanding two month series of DW. Josh started this as an extension of a “The Wall” DW supplement that mimics the wall experience from A Song of Ice and Fire, while still demanding that the DW players invent most of the content of what the DW “Wall” means. For example, our “Wall” is in a jungle and is a giant cover of ancient bones of creatures no longer in existence that keeps the dangers out.

After the sessions exploring the DW characters who had experiences at the wall, Josh explored what those characters experiences would be in the middle of the kingdom, years later, if the those same characters were ordered to try and recruit from the middle kingdoms of safety. Great sessions one and all!!!

Dreams to all characters in Josh’s games and particularly to James Sweetland and geek4x4@gmail.com who played characters! Of course, if anyone wants more details and wants the fastest response possible, reach out to me; I will try to answer as quick as humanly possible. My email is David.lafreniere13@gmail.com.

I have a post up on The Gauntlet Blog that is the first in my Design Diary series for The Between.

I have a post up on The Gauntlet Blog that is the first in my Design Diary series for The Between. This installment includes an overview of what the game is about and some of its core mechanics, some embedded videos of playtests, and a link to a folder with some early player-facing materials.

Future installments in this Design Diary series will include a look at some of the mechanics in more detail, discussion of design goals, and exploring how the game presents the setting.

Check it out!

Tragically behind on my podcasts (I’ve been distracted listening to the entire back catalog of Bad with Money – recommended!).

The episode of The Guantlet main podcast with Jason Cordova and Lowell Francis was great.

I had heard Lowell discuss Hearts of Wulin, and I’m looking forward to how that one will progress.

But the Between! Originally the setting didn’t really grab me, as I guess I’ve gotten blase about Victorian England. But holy cow the mechanics Jason described sounded so cool. Especially the Overscene mechanic. Even though it’s explicit that players and GM will loop the theme back into a scene, I can imagine the chills it will produce as the theme is revealed. So cinematic.

I was imagining a high level backer level where you get to hang out at some bitching location in London for 2 weeks while Jason runs the next session of the game for the group each night. During the day folks are free to explore Modern London; or even visit locations that come up in the game. Or maybe it’s even a maxi-con with 3-4 excellent GMs running the Between for 15-20 people.

Anyway, I’m stoked for the next steps of the game.

Anyone else interested in Over the Edge?

Anyone else interested in Over the Edge? Backed it, as I have both previous editions and almost all the supplements. For me, OTE is probably the first “story game” I ever encountered. The chargen mechanics blew my mind. Sadly, I could never get any of my friends to play.
