Anyone else interested in Over the Edge?

Anyone else interested in Over the Edge? Backed it, as I have both previous editions and almost all the supplements. For me, OTE is probably the first “story game” I ever encountered. The chargen mechanics blew my mind. Sadly, I could never get any of my friends to play.

  1. We used the basic mechanics for some other games, but I’ve never really played in the setting. I’ve backed it, too, and I would be very interested to try and play the new version.

  3. I’ve been curious about this since I saw? heard about? the first edition, but I actually know ZERO about it. Busy as hell at the moment, so if someone wants to throw me an elevator pitch summary of mechanics and setting I’d appreciate it.

  5. I’ve been reading through some of the OTE materials from the earlier edition, and I’d be very keen to play (or even GM) a game. In an interview, Jonathan Tweet said that he was going to redo the mechanics for the new edition.

I love the motive behind the original mechanics, which aims to give players considerable freedom in deciding on character traits and also to be simple and quick. I also like the world: It is heavily inspired by the atmospherics of David Cronenburg, William Burroughs, etc. The game is driving towards layer upon layer of weirdness, with reality becoming unhinged around every corner. That sounds like my kind of game!

Reading the earlier edition today, there are some cringes when it comes to its understanding of ethnicity, culture, gender, etc.. I’d imagine that Tweet will be addressing those in his new version.

  7. If only there were some kind of… I dunno… online community where all of us who want to play the game (but haven’t been able to with our local groups) could somehow play online or something!!!
