Crowdsourcing for Codex – Decay!

We will have a Dungeon World feature in Codex – Decay called “Five Artifacts that Destroyed a Civilization.” Essentially, these are magic items or mundane items of historical significance that were each somehow responsible for causing a society to collapse. If you’d like to submit something, you can paste the text of your artifact here or send it to me at gauntletpodcast@gmail.com

We’ll be taking submissions until 08.20.17.

If you have any questions, you can ask them here. Thanks!

It’s a dice roller that creates a custom URL for your “room.” You can then send that to the friends you are playing with and you can all watch/use the same dice at the same time… You can move the dice around real-time, group them, delete some or all of them, reroll some of them, etc. (It should make playing games like Dogs in the Vineyard and In A Wicked Age easier…)

It is still very much in beta, so if you run into issues, take a look at https://github.com/shanel/roller/issues to see if your problem is there, and if not log it!

If you get some use out of the site please consider making a donation to http://www.shantibhavanchildren.org/

Happy rolling!

Its another fine day in the Gauntlet Community, and its business as usual.

Its another fine day in the Gauntlet Community, and its business as usual. The latest Codex released, as its the first of the month. The Gauntlet Podcast 110 hit my stream. I sent my ritualistic message to Jason to let him know the next episode of DR is ready for quality check: “DR Ep 49 is in the Discern Realities folder on Dropbox.” I’m prepping for a great first session of Ray’s dragon hoard from his Plundergrounds zine.

Then I realized, this isn’t just an ordinary day. This is the 12 issue of Codex, which means its been a full year since we started that project. I can’t believe how quickly it went by. The Gauntlet has grown so much in the past year. I’ve met so many amazing people with the Gauntlet this year. I’ve run my first long campaign for the Gauntlet through the Anglekite setting book for Dungeon World Wednesdays. I’ve seen our calendar nearly double in scope as more people run games.

And I am thankful. I love this group. I have grown so much as a player from engaging with this group. I have grown so much as a storyteller from engaging with this group. I have grown so much as a person by engaging with this group. I cannot wait for what is to come next in the future, but I wanted to take a minute to give out some dreams, take a deep breath, and reflect a bit on all that we have done.

Dreams for all listed below!

Daniel Lewis who taught many story games, prepared many sheets for online play, and personally taught me to edit audio, so I could be the editor for Discern Realities.

Oli Jeffery for blowing my mind each time I get to see the advanced copies of Codex.

A dream for every contributing author of Codex, for making me excited to do the editing work each month.

A dream to the community for engaging in such a flurry of posts every time a Miscellany gets posted for contributions.

Richard Rogers who has allowed me to play some of the most dramatic characters in all the gaming I have done, and who allowed Bones to be a true badass.

josh gary who made it to every single Anglekite game I’ve run.

Michael G. Barford who is a fantastic partner for a secret Gauntlet Project code name: Killer-Spectre.

Gerrit Reininghaus who challenged my perception of Dungeon World in new ways with his character creations.

Michael X. Heiligenstein for his character who brought about the apocalypse in Angelkite, but introduced us all to his delightful little bird Mort in the process.

Yoshi Creelman who I always enjoy playing with and never get to see enough of.

Seraphina Ferraro for making DexCon unforgettable.

And finally Jason Cordova, without whom none of this would be possible. Here’s to another fantastic year!

Listening to another podcast – Spellburn for the Dungeon Crawl Classic folks – and guest Edgar Johnson talks briefly about also running Spirit of 77, a PbtA game, and what he sees as the similarity between OSR and Story Gaming play. As far as I recall, the hosts of Spellburn have shown a lot of positivity towards the greater gaming community, and – except for a bunch of pokes at Pathfinder – don’t promote that “us vs them” mentality you get from some more trad sections of the OSR.

I’m not sure if Dungeon Crawl Classics is that familiar to many Gauntleteers. It is sort of like old Basic D&D plus a load of Gonzo and a lot of Appendix N fiction (mostly with an effort to filter out the more problematic parts, but sometimes just hitting them with a club and moving on.)

I just find it nice when the separate tribes of gamers talk nice about each other.

One of my player’s druids died and some others are about to go on a quest to resurrect him. I’m looking to create three choices for the returning player. The first is to lose his memory of all animal forms, including his default animals. the second is to sacrifice one of the other players or a trusted NPC, at the risk of losing 4 points in Charisma, and a physical mark that identifies him as a traitor that impacts all Charisma rolls of those in his party. I need a third. I was thinking of some rewritten alignment or a move; I remember seeing a semi-debilitating compendium class, but could use some advice. Thanks

Leaving for a cottage soon; any recommendations for:

* story games (whatever)

* two participants (ideally GMless for 2 players)

* quick to learn

* can be bought as a PDF in the next 4 hours

Much appreciated!
