John Harper just released Thought Lords of Mars and it looks incredible. It’s using the newest version of the Danger Patrol system in a self contained Lady Blackbird-style setup.

Also, it’s beautiful, like a modern Book of Kells, and it mentions that the full version of the Danger Patrol is coming soon.  Check this puppy out!

Ok, kiddos, it’s time to start thinking about the Fall calendar.

Ok, kiddos, it’s time to start thinking about the Fall calendar. Does anyone have ideas for games they’d like to play or run, or special events they’d like to see? Do you have some thoughts on things you’d like to see changed in the group? Does the current line-up of game nights work?

Feel free to brainstorm in the comments.

I’ll do a write-up of our Carcosa sessions when they’re finished, but for now, here are some pics (in Hastur-y yellow) from last night.

Thanks to Jacob Densford Ferrell Riley Jeff Burke Angel Ludwig Daniel Fowler David LaFreniere and Nicolette Khan for enduring all the horror (and bodily fluids)!

So, I’ve seen the Alpha version of the 5e PHB that’s been floating around the interwebs. While it won’t supplant my beloved 13th Age, I will say that it’s not as bad as I feared.

I would say that the Alpha is about 85 to 90% correct when compared to the teaser info released by WotC. It’s enough of an accuracy to give me a good impression of the released game. There are enough 4e nuggets in there to molify me, and any 1e and 2e mechanics are very suppressed. In my opinion, 5e looks to be primarily a love child between a diluted 3.5e and 4e Essentials.

While the Fighter is still boring, and my beloved Warlord is just a whispher of himself in the Battle Master path, the Warlock looks good and the Pally has potential.

Given this impression, I would play it, especially in a Con enviroment. I wouldn’t run it at home, as the system itself (especially the monsters) doesn’t excite me enough to put in the effort.

So I’ll be purchasing the 5e PHB, but most likely not purchase the DMG or MM. That frees up money to get Deep Magic for 13th Age (thank you ASH LAW and Wade Rockett)

We had our best turnout ever for Wednesday One-Shots (18 people!).

We had our best turnout ever for Wednesday One-Shots (18 people!). The games played were The Ladykillers, Trail of Cthulhu, and The Final Girl. I played in the game of The Final Girl. We did something a little different with it – the victims were sentient toys and the ‘killer’ was all the various environmental hazards a sentient toy would face (cruel older brothers, little sisters, dogs, and so forth). It was pretty rad.

Thanks to everyone who came out: Russell Benner Angel Ludwig Daniel Lewis Ferrell Riley David LaFreniere James Melott Jenny Barendt Gary Wilson Daniel Fowler Scott Owen Kristen D and all the rest!

Just a reminder: there are no games scheduled for Friday or Sunday.

We had a great turnout for Story Game Sunday this week!

We had a great turnout for Story Game Sunday this week! We had enough people for two games. Dan ran Trail of Cthulhu and I ran Monster of the Week.

My MotW scenario was my (Gauntlet) classic, Big Trouble in Little Shanghai. Dan did the Color Out of Space for his Trail game. I’ll let him chime-in on how it went (particularly his feelings on GUMSHOE).

Thanks for Daniel Lewis for running Trail and to Jessica Scott Aaron Scott Steve Mains Ferrell Riley David LaFreniere and the people I can’t tag (Isaac, Kyle, and Jeff) for coming out!
