  1. That could be fun! For D&D, 5th edition is really good; I had a lot of fun running and playing it during the public play test. It’s no Dungeon World, however.

  3. I snagged this as well since it was so cheap. There is promise in this though it will be hard to compete with Dungeon World for my fantasy needs.

  5. Jason Cordova I will say that particular mechanic really stuck out to me as well (in a positive fashion). Just didn’t seem like the kind of move I would expect.

  7. Sean Smith Yeah, I definitely want to check it out and see if it is as cool in play as it sounds on paper.

The basic problem is, like others have mentioned, Dungeon World has already ‘solved’ fantasy RPGs for me. I can never go back to a world of 1st-level characters with 6 hit points, fighting cave rats and goblins until they are strong enough to do something interesting. In DW, the characters start out very competent and have awesome adventures from the get-go. Also, just the back-and-forth dice-rolling slog of D&D no longer has any appeal.

  9. Jason Cordova I mirror that sentiment completely. I don’t actually see myself playing 5th ed, though perhaps I might give it a try down the road, but I had to get the cheap box set to see what all the fuss was about hehe. Oh, that and I have an addiction when it comes to collecting RPGs 🙂

  11. Sean Smith I don’t suffer from that particular malady. I’m very proud of my 45% play rate (in other words, I have played 45% of the games I have purchased, whether physical or PDF – which is actually pretty darn good).

  13. If I had more time, I would certainly play more! I envy the sheer volume of games the Gauntlet is able to put together on a weekly basis. Green with envy I tell you!

  15. I bought one, too. It doesn’t contain anything interesting that the basic rules do not provide. Looking forward to the real rulebooks.
