Going on an 7-night Alaska cruise/family reunion with my 6 brothers.

Going on an 7-night Alaska cruise/family reunion with my 6 brothers. Optimistically, we’ll have a couple of hours per day of gaming + 1 8-hour session while at sea. Any recommendation for game/games?

  1. I went on a cruise with my mom and daughter a while back. I got lucky and ran into 2 gamers (not RPG, but board mostly), but I prepared well… I brought a little container with about 8 games (Carcasonne, travel Qwirkle, various card games like Citadels and Condotierre, etc.) I also brought a few story games like The Quiet Year, and we ended up playing that. They loved it even though they aren’t story gamers / RPGers. I’d consider some simple ones like that. The Final Girl is excellent for hitting non-gamers and gamers alike.

  3. David LaFreniere so almost all my brothers have played D&D and most have played other games including Star Wars, Star Trek, Paranoia, Gamma World, Star Frontiers, Vampire. I’ve been trying to introduce a few of them to Dungeon World. Most have not played trad rpg’s in decades, though all have been somewhat involved in the board game craze.

    Hope that helps?

  5. Thanks Tomer Gurantz ! The Quiet Year is actually on its way to me by mail. (every time I listen to a Gauntlet affiliated podcast I find 10 new games or supplements I want to buy).

  7. Yes Mamading Ceesay ! I like the idea of tying it in to the cruise itself. Hadn’t heard of Dino-Pirates but am looking it up. Had also thought of somehow using the region as a setting for the game via Totems of the Dead or perhaps something modern like a horror game set on the Pacific Coast of Canada/Alaska and including some of the stops…

  9. Dungeon World is great with gamer adjacent folk. And David LaFrenierewas talking about “Pirate World” type hack for DW which might be cruise-friendly. I don’t know where that is though.
