  1. I prefer the City Thief to the core book Thief. More jumping and hiding, less poisoning. More in line with my vision of a fantasy thief, which is pretty much just Midnight Rogue.

  3. Personally, I’ve never found any 3rd party books to be better than the core set, but I know a lot of people replace the wizard with the Mage. Awful Good Games also has a set which replaces all the core classes on DriveThru. I own it, but I’ve never used them.

  5. In my new game, one of my players decided on the Rogue from Awful Good Games over the Thief. I looked through them all, they seem pretty good. They’re all a slight twist in the main mechanics of the class. Their Vancomancer looks good, I’m stealing spells from that class for the core wizard. This thread is what reminded me I had all those in my GM folder, so thanks!

Edward Hickcox That’s the one from the Awful Good Games core replacement set as well.

  7. Also, I hear there’s a version of the Bard that is more performance oriented. Have to see if I can find it. Stephen Karnes I think it might also be from the Awful Good Games one.

  9. Plex Soup Class Warfare is great, but when I used it it seemed so, so complicated. I mean, you’re flipping through an entire book looking for classes you like as opposed to the six or eight that you get in the core rules.

  11. Edward Hickcox Yeah, I’m guessing that’s the one your looking for. Here’s an example of a starting move:

Magical Music When you sing or play a song, describe it and roll+CHA. ✴On a 7+, you hold the attention of every intelligent creature that can see or hear you until the performance is completed, or until something happens to break their attention, and choose 1. ✴On a 10+, choose 2. • A member of the audience becomes enraptured with you—the GM will tell you who. • One or more members of the audience give you gifts—the GM will tell you what. • A member of the audience requests your services.

All the Awful Good stuff is pretty great. I haven’t actually used their classes in play yet, but I mine them for inspiration for moves a lot.

  13. Stephen Karnes Yeah, that’s the one. I dug through my folder full of nonstandard classes and found it. I might offer some of these moves as level up options to the bard in my current game.

Did Awful Good make rewrites of all the core classes?
