Codex Spotlight – Nery Mejicano

I’m going to do posts every now and then spotlighting some of the people who have worked with us on Codex. Let’s start with Nery Mejicano. . .

Nery is an artist who has worked on the following issues of Codex thus far: Codex – Ectoplasm, Codex – Starlight, and Codex – Dark. I love working with Nery because he not only turns in amazing work (see the images below) but he shows us in-progress sketches to make sure we’re getting precisely what we want. That’s not even something we require the artists to do (and in the case of folks like Dirk Leichty, I don’t want to see the in-progress because I like to be surprised), but is nevertheless a thing I appreciate. As you can see, his use of greyscale is terrific, and he makes great artistic choices when it comes to incorporating the each issue’s color theme.

Anyway, I’ve become a huge fan, and I’m happy to report we’ll see more of his work in Codex – Love, as well as a special issue called Dia De Los Muertos.

If you have any projects coming up for which you need some illustrations, drop him a line!
