I wanted to share a setting/creature for you guys that I had in my last campaign, but that didn’t really see any use since my players are METICULOUS about finding ways around dangers lol. Anyways, here it is!

The Grand Aviary

Within the walls of the Silver Citadel lies a magnificent room, filled with lush foliage and beautiful flowers. Small waterfalls and pools accent the natural wonder of the place, though they serve little purpose for its residents. For within the Grand Aviary the precious pets of the Citadel’s master roam free. These mechanical wonders resemble living peacocks in shape and size, but they were crafted using mithril and plated with gold and gemstones. Their tails are usually kept low, but can raise into a dazzling display if needed. The gems on their tails have some enchantment on them that causes onlookers to become mesmerized, giving the construct the chance to finish them with wicked talons or with a quick flourish of their razor sharp tail feathers. An additional danger lies in the tail feathers, for they were designed for use at range as well. The tips detach into some mad man’s version of a razor sharp hook attached to a long wire. These allow the mechanical monsters to capture fleeing victims or, if the poor soul is lucky, kill them outright. Only the master and any servants wearing a special magical collar may pass through the Aviary without fear of becoming some soulless automaton’s quarry.

  1. Oh man. My players are creeping through a sadistic Master’s opulent megadungeon, and I knew there was a lush garden area, but had not yet decided what would be in it. Consider that decided.
