Reaching out to the Gauntlet collective.

Reaching out to the Gauntlet collective. I’m a fan of horror, and I picked up the Tremulus RPG to try and run some PbtA horror, and I find myself a bit “meh” about the game. It looks solid enough, but nothing really jumps out and catches my eye.

Is there hidden greatness in Tremulus? Something that sings at the table that I missed in the rule book?

Or should I look elsewhere for PbtA horror (fyi, I’m not looking for monster romance, or monster hunting… I’m looking for “creeping thru graveyards and researching libraries and running from ghosts” horror)

  1. If you’re looking for 2 player horror Murderous Ghosts is excellent – great at building a horrible, urban decay-flavoured haunting there is no escape from.

  3. My sessions of tremulus went very well, but the players ultimately convinced me it had little to do with tremulus itself and more to do with the fact I’m good at running PbtA and I’m good at running mysteries. I found it to be an adequate, if uninspiring, text. In other words, your mileage may vary. For what it’s worth, I love the mystery creation procedure, and the GM being able to bank holds on a miss is a clever touch.

  5. Jason Cordova “adequate but uninspiring” sums up my feelings so far upon reading the rules.

Blackbeard’s Bride does sound good, but my play group firmly rejects any game where more than one player is portraying the same PC. Too hippy dippy for them.
