Hey Gauntleteers – Gauntlet UK are looking at ways to expand their player base and hopefully the number of games we run and play too.

The current members think the UK element of our event name may put off potential players because they think it’s an exclusive group for UK only players.

We are currently toying with Gauntlet Europa but again don’t want to exclude anyone outside of that either. Some of us also feel it’s important to clearly explain that we are running games in a different timezone too.

Is it more important to be just be another gauntlet event, i.e. Saturday morning cartoons in order to encourage more players globally or is the geographical location relevant for understanding the time events are likely to run at?

Basically Name suggestions please!

Plus: Any tips for expanding the player base gratefully received!

  1. You may be onto something about the UK moniker making people think it’s only for people in the UK. You might go with something more generic, as you suggested. ‘Gauntlet Europa’ sounds…ominous.

If you guys could do Saturday or Sunday afternoons (US time), you’d have more players than you’d know what to do with.

  3. I’d shy away from International: it’s very broad. I could see a Gauntlet Australia coming online, as well as Asia, and then things would get confusing.

  5. GMT seems like the best bet – even though it’s technically wrong for half the year when the clocks go forward.

UK hasn’t been off-putting for me (I’m in Ireland) – I’d say the main thing is that Thursday night is my regular gaming night so having the odd game on any other night would tempt me out of the woodwork

  7. I like the Gauntlet presents: Sunday Morning Roast. Or Gauntlet: Afternoon Tea…….. I think staying away from the UK specificity is good. The meetup will state the correct time and people can read it there.

  9. GMT sounds like it would the most concise way of getting players. I would be interesting in trying to play Thursday mornings for Mountain Time, although I am technically on call for work all day, most of the time I only am needed in the evenings – so it would work, usually.

  11. Eadwin Tomlinson HA!

Great Gauntlet? Her Majesty’s Gauntlet? Monty Python’s Flying Gauntlet?

Also, I’d like to play, where can I find your game schedules, please?
