  1. Eadwin Tomlinson There isn’t a giant book of them or anything. They’re usually tucked inside adventures. I like a series called Take On, which has a couple of small magic item books which are pretty good.

  3. Thanks, I think I bought a couple of those, I’ll take a look . Disappointing regarding tome of items, I was hoping for an unearthed arcana (1st edition, of course) book of items to pour over…

  5. Eadwin Tomlinson Are you aware of the magic items that Jeremy Strandberg designed for his upcoming Stonetop setting and has posted on the Dungeon World Tavern? I find them super inspiring.

  7. Jason Cordova I really enjoyed the new segment. Getting people to talk about the games they feel strongly about is a great addition. I do wish you would continue to talk about all the games you have played as long as they have not recently been discussed.

  9. I too like the Advocate section. I’ve been listening to Rich’s old Cannon Puncture videos he re-released on YouTube and they’re very good.

  11. Steve Mains it sure was. It sure was. I am not sure why no one talks about Dungeon World. Seriously, the segment itself, regardless of its subject, was enjoyable and I hope to hear more like it. You shut your various noise holes Steve! I will deal with you tonight in Blue City.

  13. Steve Mains I do not have a problem. That cop was obviously contacting his dark associates with in the criminal underworld. He needed to be stopped, his throat needed the firm embrace of my powerful honed hands, and I needed to feel your eyes on my glorious justice. You are welcome.

  15. Game Advocates was always my all time favorite RPG podcast segment.

Regarding bonds in DW: Having closely followed DW’s development and knowing the designer’s love of Burning Wheel, one of the ways I’ve always drifted bonds is to write them as beliefs about bonds. So, if I started out with the bond: ____ and I have a con running. – then I’d update it to: ____ and I have a con running and they would never sell me out. That way, I can play to find out whether or not my belief is well founded and it can be confirmed or debunked. Either way it can be resolved and it’s resolution says something about the relationship between the characters. It’s also a gift/challenge to the bonded character’s player – they get to collaborate on my character’s story and it flags what I want to find out about the bond!

  17. I loved the bit about Bath Salts. I have a 10 year old stepson that I play with all the time and I can relate. Watching him naming characters, npcs and different aspects of the game like items and locations is hilarious, and he has the best side adventures.

He once built a fencing school for the kids on an island he saved from bad guys and erected a statue of himself, of course. Then we had a whole session with him as the principal and teacher dealing with unruly kids and school excursions.

  19. This made me check out Remember Tomorrow again, I only played it once and missed the second session back then. Which is something that doesn’t really hurt in that game, given the floating characters. But I am curious to read it again now.

I allready was in a dungeon world session today. My alignment to start unnecessary fight pretty much drove and shaped my character. I think if they are worded impactful enough alignments as achievements can work.

    No argument about the bonds.

  21. Philipp Neitzel I have less of an issue with Alignment than I do with Bonds. I think Alignment is just kind of…there. Not really hurting anything, but not really doing much, either. Like you said, it’s possible for a player to run with it and drive the fiction in a really satisfying way. But I also think it’s just as easy to ignore it and still get the XP at the end of the session by pure happenstance.

  23. Just started listening but I had to stop and dump some love on the Bath Salts play report. I was giggling and smiling the whole way through. I love RP stories involving kids. The coupon book your son made for you Richard Rogers made my heart melt a little. So cute.

  25. As someone taking the deep dive into PbtA in the new year, the focus on Dungeon World is very intriguing. Feeling really lucky to come across The Gauntlet podcast to guide me through. What a great laid back show full of insight!

  27. George Pletz We have a third podcast in development I think you’ll want to keep an eye out for. I can’t share too many details yet, but I think it will line-up nicely with your deep-dive into PbtA.

  29. Just listened. Going through backlog.

Alignment – it drives my players (at least some of them). I agree that they could be punched up a bit – especially the neutral ones. “Choses to save a natural item instead of ally” or something.

Agree bonds not so great, agree with all your concerns Jason Cordova. Love Beliefs, and SUPER LOVE Marshall Miller ‘s idea of combining beliefs and bonds.
