Whoah!
Whoah! The next two stretch goals for DFaGE are being written by Kate Bullock and Richard Rogers! That is fucking awesome! Kate’s opens at $4500 CAD (nearly there!) and Rich’s opens at $5,000 CAD. Those are on top of mine and Thomas Novosel’s, which unlocked earlier this week.

Did you know we have a sponsorship tier for +1 Forward on our Patreon?
Did you know we have a sponsorship tier for +1 Forward on our Patreon? It is similar to the one we have for The Gauntlet Podcast and Discern Realities. We’ll record a short promotional spot and include it in each episode of the show that airs in the month of your pledge, as well as include links on our website. The sponsorship spot is a great way to give a little oomph to Kickstarter projects or to simply keep your company’s name in the minds of our community members. At only $35 per month, it’s a pretty terrific investment, especially considering new people find our shows every single day. If you have any questions, message me on Hangouts chat. And feel free to re-share!

New $6 Patreon Tier
New $6 Patreon Tier
A number of people have asked “How do I join the Gauntlet Slack group?” Up until now, our Slack has been limited to $7 Patrons and people who create things for the Gauntlet. When I originally set it up that way, I didn’t know how vital the Slack would become to the “Gauntlet experience,” so to speak. So many fun conversations, and so much creative inspiration, happens inside our Slack channels, and I’ve been trying to find a way to include more people in that.
I’m making a $6 Patreon tier available that not only gets you an invite to our Slack, but also gives you access to a Hangouts call we’ll be doing monthly starting in May. Also, and this is an entirely unofficial benefit, we tend to fill out our Hangouts games on Slack. $7 Patrons still have RSVP priority, but when a spot here or there needs to be filled, we turn to the Slack first.
You may ask “Why not just make the Slack available for everyone?” The answer is pretty straightforward: it’s much easier to manage, moderate, and enjoy when there are fewer people. We’re much more likely to get the people who really love what we do, and who really want to be there (and therefore will not act like assholes), if we put some restrictions on it.
Thanks!

In Episode 94 of The Gauntlet Podcast, Kate Bullock and I welcome Andrew Medeiros to discuss character death and grief in roleplaying games. This was definitely one of the more sad episodes of the show we have ever done, but I think you’re going to like it. The conversation is wide-ranging, but also filled with lots of good, practical advice for making these themes work in your game.
Enjoy?

Hey Ma, look: I’m a stretch goal!
Hey Ma, look: I’m a stretch goal!
I’m pleased to announce I’ll be writing the first stretch goal for Dust, Fog & Glowing Embers. When Slade Stolar hits his target ($3500 CAD), I’ll put together A Walking Tour of Stome, Vol. 1, which includes the following adventure locations:
Hestyr’s Mill. This small village in the Fens, and the farms surrounding it, used to provide the city with much of its grain. But then the work was turned over to the machines, iron devil-hulks heaving with wheels and belts and blades, and the people of Hestyr’s Mill were left with naught but their petty grievances to occupy their days. No one has heard from the village in years.
The Ruby Palace Exhibit. An exhibition of international renown, a veritable maze of wonders! See! The tarot card collection of the Empress of Bazhir! See! The Yak Men of the North and their new method for the reading of entrails! See! Three hitherto undiscovered colors of ectoplasm! Around every corner is something new to titillate, educate, and delight!
The Albion Pettigrew School for Boys and Snakes. One of the most prestigious boarding schools in the city, and a highly regarded institution for the study of vipers, snakes and serpents. Boys at the Pettigrew school receive a world-class education in discipline, etiquette, and the various serpentine mysteries, including the reading of scales and the translation of hisses. It is no mistake the city’s very best snake handlers are usually accompanied by rapturous cheers of “You can always tell a Pettigrew man!”
The Panoptica. This small neighborhood is filled with people whose humours are…somewhat out of balance. Less charitable citizens say the residents of the Panoptica are hopelessly mad, but this rather reductive view disregards the opportunity for serious scientific inquiry. What secrets can be learned from their wailing and raving? Are there mysteries to be unlocked from observing their bizarre, elliptical behavior? What can we learn from the fact they have taken to trading their own teeth as currency?
Let’s make this happen!

The Legacy Weapon is released into the world!
The Legacy Weapon is released into the world! I got a chance to playtest this with Phil Vecchione and Senda Linaugh at Dreamation 2017, and if you guys had been there, you would know how utterly delightful I think it is. Seriously, I had a huge grin on my face the whole time. I talked about it on the last episode of Discern Realities (Episode 41), but here’s the short version: it’s a supplement for Dungeon World that facilitates play between the GM and one player, and it does so in a really fun, elegant way.
To unpack it a little, you create a character as normal, but then follow a specific procedure to create the legacy weapon, which the character has just acquired. The legacy weapon has a history of its own, and its previous wielders give it certain powers and characteristics. As you play out the adventure, you don’t just learn the character’s story, but also the stories of the previous wielders of the weapon. It is very, very cool, and I can’t recommend it enough (and it even comes with a sample adventure!)
Here’s the Drivethru link. It’s a fucking steal at $2.95. https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/207958/The-Legacy-Weapon–A-Dungeon-World-Artifact-and-One-Shot?
I am delighted to present the newest member of the Comic Strip AP family, High Plains Samurai!
I am delighted to present the newest member of the Comic Strip AP family, High Plains Samurai! Todd Crapper, the author of the game, is producing this one with his buddy Nick, and in this first episode alone, you get a really good sense of how the gameplay works. I am particularly intrigued by the cinematic framing (which is something I love to do in the games I run), so I’ll definitely have my eye on this one when it comes out.
Enjoy!
