Thanksgiving weekend depressed turnout for Story Game Sunday this week (I suspected it might), but all was not lost. Rob Ferguson and I played a terrific game of Tim Koppang’s Mars Colony, a two-player RPG that has saved the day on a few occasions.

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving and I’m feeling grateful for the terrific year of gaming The Gauntlet has provided in 2013. When I moved to Houston, I didn’t really know anyone, and definitely didn’t know many gamers. But, here I am, 10 months and 100+ sessions later, wrapping-up what has been one of the most exhilarating and fulfilling gaming years I’ve ever had.
There were a fair number of people who, initially, were simply fun to game with because they were dependable and sporting. But now, many of those same people are folks I look forward to gaming with not just because they are good role-players, but because I genuinely enjoy their company. They have moved from the gaming table to the ‘friend table,’ and I couldn’t be more delighted.
Anyway, enough being sappy. Here’s to the gamers who play!

Last night was a terrific way to wrap things up before the Thanksgiving break. We actually had time to play two games last night: WtMoYFaBA, YP and The Final Girl.
Witness the Murder of Your Father and Be Ashamed, Young Prince turned out to be pretty good. It’s closer to a party game than an RPG (it feels similar to games like Werewolf and Mafia), but it was great fun. It took us a round to get the hang of it, but once we got going, it became very cutthroat.
The Final Girl was, as ever, a blast. Our victims were stranded in the wilderness after a river rafting expedition gone awry. The killers were a family of chicken-fried cannibals.

Tonight, in observance of the 50th anniversary of the JFK assassination, we are playing Witness the Murder of Your Father and Be Ashamed, Young Prince. There is also a hack of this game called The Bear is Loose Within the Circus, and it is based on Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. It is available for free download.
I think we’ll round-out Friday One-Shots for the year with one of the very best games we’ve played in 2013.
