Some pictures from this week’s Wednesday One-Shots. We played a roller coaster game of World of Dungeons. I won’t try to explain what happened, except to say it involved the works of Tennessee Williams, a dysfunctional family of dragons, and a conservative lich radio host called Rush Grimbaugh.

These are a bit late because I have been super-busy with work, but here are some snaps from Sunday’s game of The Final Girl. We played a game in which the characters (28 of them!) were monsters in a dungeon and the killer was an adventuring party.
It was a lot of fun! It may have been referred to once as The Real Housewives of Khazad-dum.

We had a terrific session of Dungeon World for Friday’s Anthology game. All kinds of action-packed goodness took place, but here are some highlights:
-The Blue Brotherhood characters were joined by three new adventurers: an elven arcane duelist, a trouble-making halfling thief (is there any other kind?) and a ranger whose animal companion is a swarm of bees.
-A ghost leads the ranger away on a mini-quest to find and bury her remains. The ranger accidentally shatters the skull of the remains, filling the ghost with anger and a desire for vengeance.
-Our elven initiate singlehandedly dispatches a pack of ten ghouls by leading them into an acid trap.
-The party defeats a manticore and makes off with the magic mirror they came to find. The halfling thief burns the manticore’s baby alive.
-The party awakens a 30 foot tall abomination made of hundreds of human bodies. It proceeds to destroy the keep.
-During a desperate attempt to escape the Keep, the party is chased down by a bullette that had been roaming the halls. The elven initiate sacrifices himself so the party can escape..
We had a blast! Thanks to Derek Grimm Russell Benner Ferrell Riley Scott Owen Jacob Densford and Nicolette Khan !
My AW-powered pro wrestling game World Wide Wrestling is now available in public beta. I figured there may be at least a few wrestling fans around here who might be interested!
Some pics from Wednesday One-Shots. We had two tables. My table used Microscope to tell the story of an Atlantis-type civilization (that might have been called Hotlantis) after it sinks into the sea. Rob Ferguson ‘s table played Kingdom and told the story of Hell in the internet age.

“Love and Sex in the Ninth World is a guide to integrating elements of love and sex into any Numenera story or adventure. In addition to details on Ninth World relationships, courtship rituals, commitment ceremonies, and sexual practices, it provides game master advice on how, when, and why to add love and sex to your game; tips for sex- and love-driven storylines; and ways in which to handle sensitive topics at the table.”
Excuse me while I glance into the camera, House of Cards-style, and give a knowing, devastating arch of the eyebrow.
Each document in the Anthology folder has been updated.

Last night we ended up playing Warrior-Poet (the haiku game) instead of One Last Job, which has been moved to Wednesday. So, how did Warrior-Poet go? Not great. In fact, it kind of sucked.
Character creation was a lot of fun and, conceptually, the haiku-based mechanics are pretty cool. But in actual play, it falls apart completely. There is simply too much waiting around while the combatants write their line of haiku. A single fight takes FOREVER. On top of that, the actual mechanical outcomes just aren’t that interesting. You spend an eternity writing and judging these haikus, just so you can earn bonus dice in the combat. You roll all the dice you have earned and then whoever has the most matched pairs wins. It’s pretty damn flat. On top of that, the character creation process gives you these really sweet traits and concepts to work with, but they literally do NOTHING in terms of the mechanics. It feels very wasted.
All that said, I can appreciate the author’s attempt to push the hobby into new and interesting territory. But, on this one, the execution was just deeply flawed.
A good little interview with Paul Czege about his new game The Clay That Woke.
A good little interview with Paul Czege about his new game The Clay That Woke. This one is in Kickstarter right now and is rapidly climbing the charts of games I am most excited about right now.
