I will be starting a brand-new game of Monsterhearts, which will be run via Google Hangouts on Thursdays. It’s a 4-6 session commitment (depending on where the story is going).

Monsterhearts is a hack of the award-winning Apocalypse World engine (and is itself a winner of numerous indie game awards). The pithy summary of what it’s about is: Twlight, or maybe True Blood. In fact, it’s much more interesting than either of those. See the link.

If you’re interested in joining this game, please post in the comments. We’ll be starting next Thursday.

I needed some time to catch-up on Anthology stuff, so last night we did a one-shot of The Shab al-Hiri Roach. A great (and ghoulish) time was had by all. The Roach is far from a perfect game, but it’s always a good time.

I have heard Jason Morningstar say he wants to go back and revise the rules, since he has learned a lot about game design since he made this one a decade ago. I would love to see that, because in terms of setting and theme, The Shab al-Hiri Roach is hard to beat. A rules refresh would be awesome.

Thanks to Rob Ferguson Jacob Densford and Nikki Khan. And thanks and happy birthday to Angel Ludwig!

We discovered something really cool tonight: Microscope plays beautifully over Hangouts.

We discovered something really cool tonight: Microscope plays beautifully over Hangouts. Here is our work product, if you’re curious how we managed it. It was a ton of fun and I’m super-happy with the final result. It’s a pretty metal timeline of the frozen North in our Anthology world.

Thanks to Derek Grimm and Sean Smith !

A good turnout for Wednesday One-Shots last night.

A good turnout for Wednesday One-Shots last night. Rob Ferguson ran what sounded like a pretty rad session of Dog Eat Dog and I ran an ongoing campaign of Dungeon World. Everyone had a great time. The Jax deck was a bit noisier than normal. I may try to find a quieter corner next time. Otherwise, a lot of fun.

A good little Bundle of Holding.

A good little Bundle of Holding.

A good little Bundle of Holding. Now if we could just convince someone to run this fucking game, we’d be all set. I don’t know…maybe someone who has a fetish for investigation games? Or the Mythos? Or who has, you know, run GUMSHOE before?

Mechanical Constraint: Must be a hack of Apocalypse World. A common set of moves – no play books.

Thematic Constraint: The tropes and logic of video games.

Feel free to brainstorm in the comments.

For Story Game Sunday, we played John Harper ‘s Lasers & Feelings.

For Story Game Sunday, we played John Harper ‘s Lasers & Feelings. It was an absolute blast, and a very interesting take on the Apocalypse World ideas (which I have to imagine was an inspiration). We did a rotating GM thing, a la Cosmic Patrol, which worked out very well. In fact, it was noted more than once that Lasers & Feelings manages to be a better Cosmic Patrol in one page of rules than Cosmic Patrol is in an entire book (but don’t get me wrong – I love Cosmic Patrol, too).

Lasers & Feelings is available for free on the designer’s website, and the rules can be read in about 5 minutes. If you enjoy PbtA games, you should definitely take a look at this one. Here’s the link: http://onesevendesign.com/lasers_and_feelings_rpg.pdf

The Tales of Uri-Sahar in the Anthology folder has been updated. Two more tales have been added: “The Murder of Dem-Ashur” and “The Ehsani Rebellion.” These will be of interest to folks coming to In a Wicked Age tonight.
