Rob Donoghue and Vincent Baker on the show talking about design. One part a response to luke crane on episode 80, one part design intent, one part, a weak roast on my part.

I don’t know if this is common knowledge or not, But Sandy Petersen, author of the original Call of Cthulhu, will be running two eight hour sessions of CoC at Owlcon, unless it’s a great big April Fools joke.
Excuse me while I geek out here a moment: Ho-lee shit
As I write this, there are still seats available on Sunday. You have been warned.
Hail Satan.
Hail Satan.
I am interesting in running a campaign on Wednesdays in the new year, and I wanted to gauge interest in my idea. If you are interested in playing Heroquest set in Glorantha on Wednesdays please indicate so by commenting below.
I would like to run a campaign of Robin Laws’ Heroquest, set in Glorantha. I’ll be using the Kingdom of Sartar campaign, mixed with my own scenarios and other material.
So, what is Heroquest?
* Written by Robin Laws.
* A game engine designed specifically to emulate stories, and rather than a simulation style rpg.
* Heroquest mechanics rely on an abstract contest mechanic where magic, skills, fighting ability and anything else that can be used to solve a problem is given a rating, which is then contested vs resistances based on story logic, rather than the difficulty of the action.
What is Glorantha?
* Glorantha is a fantasy world, created by Greg Stafford (author of Pendragon) which is based on myth and legend from the bronze age.
* The main theme of Glorantha is man’s interaction with the spiritual world, made manifest through magic.
* Glorantha is not a planet, but a gigantic slab of the Earth that floats in an endless sea. The sun is not a fiery ball of plasma, but a god that travels through the sky during the day and though the dark and mysterious underworld at night.
* In Glorantha the gods are real, and are regularly interacted with during sacred ceremonies. Likewise, spirits are real, Wizards cast working spells and Mystics call upon powers developed through discipline and study.
* Glorantha doesn’t look like a generic fantasy world, but a place more like the world of Alexander the Great and Xerxes of Persia.
* The players will be regularly interact with mythic forces through Heroquesting, developing powers through interaction with gods, demons and other mythic figures which they are then able to use against their mundane foes.
* The campaign will begin in Sartar, and all players will belong to the same tribe. The first session will be devoted to creating the characters’ tribe, which will give context and purpose to the characters actions.
* I need from three to four regular players who are willing to commit to attending most sessions. Other players can drop in and out as they wish, but as a campaign, it will be difficult to maintain a long story without at least three core participants.
* Glorantha has a reputation of being a very dense background. I want to stress that you do not need to know a single thing about Glorantha in order to play.
If you wish I can give you some short (one page) background info each week, that can become immediately useful to you during the following session. But it’s not necessary in order to play.
* What is useful to you is to know something about myth and legend, as well as story telling. This sort of knowledge will allow you to exploit both the game system and the background to your advantage.
I would be happy to answer any questions any of you might have. And of course, this campaign will only be possible if there is an open slot in the schedule and enough player interest.
Thanks!
Alright, in the never-ending struggle for X-mas money (hail satan) I have some more rpgs books for sale.
Alright, in the never-ending struggle for X-mas money (hail satan) I have some more rpgs books for sale. In this case, I am actually OK with the system (FATE and FUDGE) but I want to play so many other things first…
Spirit of the Century (SC) (very used and dogeared) ($30.00)
Starblazer Adventures (HC) (scratch on the back cover, otherwise in good shape) ($50.00)
SBA Storyteller’s Screen ($15.00)
Diaspora (HC) ($25.00)
Mindjammer (SC) (1st edition SBA supplement) ($30.00) (big crease on front cover)
Legends of Anglerre (HC) ($50.00)
Houses of the Blooded (SC) (not really FATE, but uses Aspects) ($45.00)
The Deryni Adventure game (HC) ($40.00)
FUDGE 10th Anniversary Edition (HC) ($35.00)
A Magical Medley (SC) ($20.00)
Hack ‘N Slash (SC) ($15.00)
As usual, if you buy the entire lot, you get a 50% discount. The less you buy, the more the price goes up. $175.00 (cash, please) for the entire bundle.
Finally, the last item I think that will be of interest to Gauntlet members is my boxed set of Freemarket by Luke Crane and Jared Sorensen. I am not letting this one go for less than $50.00.
Hail Satan.

Something a little fun, and a little thought provoking.

I am culling the vaults to generate Christmas/Krampusnacht money, and trying to recognize which games I will never run/play.
My collection of Burning Wheel games has dropped into this category, unfortunately. I thought I would see if anyone in the Gauntlet was interested before I started with Ebay.
Burning Wheel Revised Edition (2 books, Character Burner & System) – $25.00
Monster Burner – $20.00
Magic Burner – $25.00
Adventure Burner – $25.00
The Blossoms Are Falling – $20.00
Jihad – $10.00
Iron Empires – $45.00
I would prefer to sell them as a group, and am willing to discount them up to 50% off of retail if you buy them all. ($85.00 in cash, please.) If you just want one or two, then full retail. I believe many of these are going for outrageous prices on the collector’s market.
Honesty compels me to add that there is some light damage to the spines of Revised (I bought them that way) and that the spine that the pages are attached to in Burning Empires is beginning to become unglued. I think that was typical of the binding of the book, rather than my trashing of it. No pages have fallen out yet, they just look loose in a small section of the middle.
Please consider contributing if you have yet to do so. 25 bucks gets you a complete book of a wonderful game.

Less than $200 unlocks a new illustrated story by John Scott Tynes in #Puppetland ! “Punch the Maker-Killer” tells the tale of Punch and how he came to rule Puppetland. Suitable for children only if they are very strange. It will be illustrated by Samuel Araya and Hannah Kennedy.
Has anybody in the Gauntlet played Puppetland?
Has anybody in the Gauntlet played Puppetland? I ran/played it once, years ago, and just recently a Kickstarter was started for it.
And you can find out more about it here. The original game is still free, at one of the connecting links:
