Barbozar the Barbarian first died (ignominiously) when he was struck by a piece of masonry that was dislodged by a Kaiju. He was visited by his feline deity, who gave him another chance to seek a more glorious death. Barbozar died again the next day, taking with him the life of the dastardly snake cultist who had poisoned his mind and slit his throat. This also involved an awesome plummet from the top of the cultist’s temple to the bottom of their vipers’ pit, perhaps the most epic DDT in history. This death pleased his goddess, who offered him a deal.

At this point we all began to brainstorm. I suggested that he could choose to die a human or be transformed into a sabertooth tiger, serving Josh’s Ranger Durion as an animal companion (it’s worth noting that Durion had begun to worship the goddess of hunting as well). Matt suggested that Barbozar could choose to die a Barbarian or live as a Paladin, and swap the playbooks out completely. Daniel tasked me with finding a balance between these ideas.

The result was this compendium class, which steals mercilessly from the Paladin playbook but hopefully stands on its own. Let me know what you think, and if you have any deity-specific, Paladin-inspired compendium classes, please share them!

Just wanted to thank YG Mitchell Richard Rogers and David LaFreniere for helping me a lot with playtesting Young at Heart. I’m revising a couple things and putting in an alternate way of play that will really hit home with storygamers while also keeping the initial setup for new gamers. I think its going to be really great. I am naming the storygamer setup as “Taking the training wheels off”, tickles me a little. It’s going to jump into the meat of the thing and give the players all the agency as to the stakes of the story. Pretty stoked to playtest that one tomorrow!

David and Richard were such fantastic players tonight and Youan was unreal with the 1v1 game. Hank Crinshaw was a loveable asshole and Jamal Jackson was fantastic and very much less of an asshole, anyways I digress. I just can’t get across how helpful playtesting is, it earns you my undying gratitude. Thanks so very much!

On Tuesday, 25th of October, I’m going to run a playtest of a baseball-themed hack of The Black Hack set in Gauntlet City. I’m quite excited to give this thing a spin. Come join me.

Tonight, The Gauntlet: Rubber City wrapped up our series of Dungeon World adventures in The Seclusium of Nishanesti of the Far Sea (an adventure I made using Vincent Baker’s The Seclusium of Orphone of the Three Visions).

There were evil sisters, assassins, giant sand slugs, and time travel. Really, lots of fun. Huge thanks to Ron and Carlos for seeing it through to the end.

Would any of you fine, upstanding Gauntleteers be willing to blind playtest a PbtA hack that I have been working on?

Would any of you fine, upstanding Gauntleteers be willing to blind playtest a PbtA hack that I have been working on? The elevator pitch is something like: “a concise, quick to the table PbtA game that lets you star in any one of the many episodic television shows about the trials and tribulations of a starship’s crew.”

It has worked very well in the Star Trek playtests I have run, but I’d love additional feedback on:

1) Are the rules clear, compelling, and presented in a logical order?

2) Do the mechanics support or hinder the flavor of your show of choice?

3) Is the advice in the Director’s (GM) Playbook useful?

4) Does having the Captain as an NPC trip up your group?

5) Is there a place for this hack in the universe of PbtA games? If there is one thing I’ve learned since joining the Gauntlet, it is that there are far more PbtA games out there than I ever realized. There very well could be ten PbtA hacks out there that already do what this game is trying to do.

Just finished a two-shot of Into the Odd with some fine Gauntleteers!

I’d like to run something on Tuesday nights in the semi-near future. Are people most interested in Whitehack, The Black Hack, The Rad Hack, or Perdition? Or drop your preferred OSR system in comments.

Alright!

Alright!

Alright! It’s great that the Patreon has taken off! To anyone who has contributed and/or participated, thanks! In celebration, I’ve updated a few of my game sessions (Dates 10/22, 10/29, 11/5, and 11/12)

There are definitely still openings for players.

Check out the first one here: http://www.meetup.com/Gauntlet-Hangouts/events/233471657/?

In case you are new to The Gauntlet, or I’ve steered you here from another place, Jason Cordova  and Richard Rogers  of “The Gauntlet Podcast” run RPG sessions on Google Hangouts almost every Saturday Morning under the title “Saturday Morning Cartoons”. Because it is a time that works for many people, and games fill up quickly I try and run something too. Hope to game with you soon!

The Extraction

I turned the AP report of our latest session of Hamish Cameron ‘s The Sprawl into a little POV fiction piece. Daniel Lugo  is our GM.

It’s quick and dirty, with all the mistakes and complications we had on the mission. I took a few liberties with dialogue, but otherwise, it’s what happened. Enjoy!
