Howdy Gauntlet Folk!

Howdy Gauntlet Folk!

Howdy Gauntlet Folk! I posted this a couple days ago, but it apparently got mysteriously auto-modded. Anyway, I just wanted to share this re-design of the Adventures on Dungeon Planet playsheets. I was going for a torn from the pages of a pulp comic look. Enjoy, and let me know what could be better! LINK: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4zM4VXGqWMnRGQ5RnpqTUQyNWs/view

There is a lot of drama going on right now in certain gaming circles on G+. I myself don’t get involved, but I watch it. This drama involves many of the usual suspects, and it’s forcing people to feel like they have to leave social media or abandon the hobby altogether. I’d say it makes me sad, but it actually doesn’t (the hobby doesn’t have that kind of emotional power over me; the day it starts to, I will also abandon it). But I do think it’s disappointing. When I look at our Gauntlet spaces (meaning G+, Slack and Gauntlet Hangouts), I see a community of people who are exceedingly kind to one another. Our culture is one of respect, mutual admiration, and genuine affection. We’re serious about our games, but we’re also serious about making sure everyone is being friendly and giving. And we have maintained that for a long time. Occasionally, someone who fundamentally doesn’t understand the Gauntlet tries to inject themselves into things and cause trouble, but that’s pretty rare.

Are we perfect? Fuck no. One of the things I wish we were better at was finding those people who feel pushed out of the hobby and letting them know we are a haven from that bullshit. We also have no discernible structure, which is probably confusing, at best, and suspicious, at worst.

But what we’re doing is working. If I knew how to export it to other hobby spaces, I would.

Woot! More cyberpunk and just in time to point out a few related items in the DTRPG Setting Sale. This installment sees a move to more modern thinking about technology, striking indie approaches to the genre, and great setting toolboxes. I’m still moving on with these lists for the next installment in October.

Here is a fantastic illustration by Jesse Ross going into Codex – Decay. It’s for an original story game by Joshua Fox called The Big H. The Big H is about a superhero who falls from grace and the lesser heroes who looked up to him before he began his descent. I think this illustration perfectly captures the vibe of the game. It’s going to be awesome!

The direction of this session was decided when we looked at what the book called an “arrow slit” but appeared as a five foot gap on the map. It allowed the heroes to avoid some nasty defensive measures and make a pell mell assault deep into the center of the temple.

This is rather similar to what they did with the Earth cult outpost earlier but with some added issues. Namely, while there is a safe place they could rest a day on this map, they are nowhere near it. They’ve made a lot of noise. Killed two of the lieutenants and rested an hour while the villains organized.

Next session will be interesting.

I’m new to doing gaming online in video conferencing but I know it has been a thing for a while. I have an in person and local gaming group that meets a few times a month. I’m interested in more one off and ongoing games only need because of the obvious convenience and because I do a lot of video for work. Are there good guides for how people find games, meet folks online, etc out there?

Howdy Gauntlet folk, I thought I’d share a small thing I did this week: a redesign of the playsheets from Adventures on Dungeon Planet. I went for a more retro, pulpy design, and I think they look pretty good. Any and all feedback is welcome! I’m running a few sessions of DP next month, so I’m excited to bust these out!
