Hey Gauntleteers!
Now that you’ve had a chance to check out our first episode of GM Masterclass, it’s time to think of some new questions for us for the next couple episodes!
What are your GMing questions for Jason Cordova and I?

Friday Dreams
Friday Dreams
I have rolled 2d6 + CHA and the result was ‘7,’ so that’s seven dreams to pass out this week…
A dream to Gerrit Reininghaus for his portrayal of Julia the Wyrm in Mercy Falls ’83, a fascinating character who is managing to match (and even surpass) my legendary Mercy Falls rogues gallery in pure villainy.
Another Mercy Falls ’83 dream to Philipp Neitzel, who let me go there with his Hollow who suffers from dysphoria. Led to one of the most bleedy scenes for me in a long time.
A dream to Kate Bullock River Williamson Richard Ruane Maria Rivera and Lauren McManamon, who are already ankle deep in planning Gauntlet Con 2018, even though it is still eight months away!
A dream to the game runners on Gauntlet Hangouts! That space is no longer the private playground of Rich, Lowell, and I, which makes me very, very happy.
A dream to Rob Abrazado, who does that wonderful, difficult-to-summarize, but absolutely necessary community cheerleading that makes the Gauntlet possible.
A dream to our game designer Patrons: Phillip Wessels Ray Otus Michael X. Heiligenstein and Fraser Simons. Their monetary pledges are obviously helpful, but more important: they let me apply my very unique experience in this hobby to their creative projects, and that is personally satisfying for me.
Do you have dreams to give out this week? Post them in the comments (non-Gauntlet related dreams are totally fine!)

I’m listening to Fear of a Black Dragon and I’m on the Qelong episode.
I’m listening to Fear of a Black Dragon and I’m on the Qelong episode. Jason and Tom said something super interesting in reference to letting bad stuff happen to the PCs that I think I’ll carry with me for a while.
Tom: “It’s the threat that matters more than the likelihood of it happening.”
Jason: “That’s precisely right. Player’s don’t know the difference, and I don’t think it matters,”
I took away that you want to threaten the players with failure and bad stuff to make the situation tense and exciting for them, but make the dice fair (or even advantageous) for them so they don’t get discouraged by a lot of failures or bad stuff. Absolutely follow through when the bad stuff happens (it needs to have teeth or it’s not threatening) but the threat itself is what actually matters and the outcome can be weighted in the PCs favor a little to ensure game longevity.
I like that idea a lot.
Happy Valentine’s Day!
Happy Valentine’s Day! The Gauntlet is doing a drawing for a softcover copy (plus PDF) of Emily Care Boss’s game collection The Romance Trilogy. To be entered in the drawing, just follow us on Twitter @GauntletRPG by midnight!
We are giving away two more copies this month: one on February 21st and one on February 28th. You’ll be entered in those drawings as well when you follow us on Twitter.

I’d like to do some crowdsourcing for the Miscellany in Codex – Cold.
I’d like to do some crowdsourcing for the Miscellany in Codex – Cold. The piece is called “Three dozen unusual things about this body we just found.” Submissions should be no more than 2-3 short sentences. By submitting here, you’re agreeing to let us use it (you’ll get a credit on the issue). We’re looking for evocative stuff. The purpose of the Miscellany is to inspire the reader.
For this one, you can go with any genre or flavor, so long as whatever is going on with your corpse is strange and might inspire some kind of investigation by the player characters.
Here are some examples:
“The serial number XKC4005281 is tattooed on the inside of her lower lip.”
“The tiny hard drive on his ocular recording implant is still intact, and contains video of everything he saw in the last three days of his life. Everything except for a tiny, 10-minute slice, which is no doubt connected to who or what did him in.”
“The flesh on the wizard’s fingers is completely melted off, leaving nothing but charred bones. It gives new meaning to the term ‘burning hands,’ that’s for sure.”

I’ve had an idea for a while about how to present adventure modules in a super compact fashion.
Below is a video explaining the idea. I’m sure this simple DIY implementation can be improved on.
It also surprises me that the big module producers don’t produce something similar (i.e. some sort of highly polished pdf with pop up text).
This idea might not be for you, but please share as I’m sure some geeks will like it!
:O)

I rolled 2d6 +CHA and got an “8,” so that’s eight dreams to give away this week…
A dream to Lowell Francis who has taken on a leadership/mentorship role at Gauntlet Hangouts and is doing incredible stuff with it.
A dream to Kate Bullock, who is sharing our magic and bringing folks into the fold.
A dream to David LaFreniere who is moving into the content side of Codex, which is a massive help to me.
A dream to the #feel_club channel on our Slack group. Such an incredible space for support and encouragement. It’s a marvel to behold.
A dream to Claudia Cangini who has been such a pleasure to work with on Codex.
A dream to Tom McGrenery and Paul Edson, my co-conspirators on Fear of a Black Dragon. Working on that show has been so creatively fulfilling, you don’t even know.
A dream to Hamish Cameron who gave us some dreams on Twitter yesterday out of nowhere, and it was lovely.
A dream to Kyle Simons, who is always so supportive of me personally, and who just gets it.

Hi all! (big wave)
Hi all! (big wave)
I want to throw this out here for any of you that might want another Dungeon World podcast:
https://www.thechimaera.com/chimaeracast/
(it should also be an most podcast apps, let me know if we are missing any)
A few buddies and myself started doing this a few months ago and we just wrapped up our second series in the podcast which I am pretty proud of. We tend to go for more serious gameplay moments with the jokes being outside the fiction. While the original episode zero (where we give the gauntlet all the props) has been taken down because of sound quality and let’s be honest inexperience, it was my first time running DW for people. I would throw a shout out to Jason Cordova and the whole gauntlet crew for influencing how we decided to run our podcast. The world is continuous, but stories are broken up into smaller runs with new characters and a new DM for every series. If that sounds like your kind of thing, please do! If not, that is okay! Soon, we are also going to have an open resource for magic items on the website for any new DM’s! we have just been slacking! Some will come soon! I swear!
Thanks a lot for all that you folks do as a community. I’m happy to be a part of it!
Z
ps. if any of you are in Iowa HMU! We run a ton of stuff locally and would love to have you come in!
