I love when your standard plunder-the-ancient-tomb dungeon crawl suddenly turns into a Spelljammer campaign.

Playtested my Threeforged game tonight. It was REALLY fun. I can’t wait to see what other people do with it.

There is a G+ conversation consuming the RPG creatives right now involving how much freelancers should be paid, and just the economics of the industry in general. It doesn’t directly concern most of us, but Jesus Christ, it has been eye-opening to follow. These are vanishingly small amounts of money at stake! I will make a point to stop complaining about $100 Kickstarters and just dutifully hand over my money from now on. It’s the least I can do as a consumer with a reasonable amount of disposable income.

First: I am incredibly pumped about my game for Paul Czege’s #Threeforged  contest.

Second: I am fucking terrified of what other people are going to do to it.

Third: I am excited about what other people are going to do to it.

Fourth: It will take me a minute to get as equally pumped about some other person’s game as I am my own.

Fifth: This is a very cool exercise.

The end of an era.

The end of an era.

The end of an era. I have run my final sessions of Dungeon World for Houston Gauntlet. I’m not sure how many DW sessions, in total, I have run in Houston, but I would be shocked if it was less than 150.

But no looking back (except in fondness). The adventure never ends. Onward to Gauntlet Hangouts! Onward to New Jersey Gauntlet!

Thanks to everyone who joined me for The Horrors of House Vulgonne: Russell Benner Jeff Burke Daniel Fowler Scott Owen, Jorge, Cheryl and David! Someday you’ll be able to say “I was there.”

Some pics from recent game days. Dead of Winter is really fun; we’ve already played it four or five times. It has this great blend of co-operative and competitive play that is really addictive. The Crossroads mechanic (which is apparently the foundation for several board games Plaid Hat has coming out) introduces a nice, RP-lite aspect to the game.

On Wednesday, we played a really terrific game of Fiasco. It was, in its way, very classically Fiasco: redneck hoodlums, grannies with pipe bombs, and a Weekend at Bernie’s– inspired attempt at getting away with a murder. Everyone was hitting their character beats, and it was hilarious.

I’m prepping for our five-session series of Undying, which starts Sunday, and I can’t decide which location/cultural period I want to start in. I have it down to the following, each of which seem interesting to me in their own way: Elizabethan London, Turn-of-the-Century Paris, 1970’s NYC.

Thoughts?

We had a fun session of Dungeon World over on Gauntlet Hangouts.

We had a fun session of Dungeon World over on Gauntlet Hangouts. I’m playing with mostly new people, and part of the fun, for me, has been revisiting my DW Rogue’s Gallery. Longtime Houston Gauntleteers will recognize Emerald Nightmare, Reekeesik, and the Three Old Kings, each of whom has appeared (or is getting ready to appear) in this new campaign.

Thanks to the folks who joined me this week: Andy Hauge Richard Rogers and Yoshi Creelman.
