Phew!

Phew!

Phew! There is nothing like that feeling when you are ready to leave a reply on a contentious social media thread, especially one that is about stuff close to your heart, like podcasting and gaming, and deciding at the last second to hit abort.

Not. My. Scene.

The Gauntlet is about loving games; about loving them, playing them and then sharing that love with anyone who cares enough to pay attention. That’s good enough for us, I think.

Saw this on the Blades in the Dark community. It’s just too weird, interesting, inspiring not to share!

I’m not sure exactly what these would be, but maybe found in a hall of the Keel School of Metaphysical Studies, or a floor of Lord Scurlock’s manor

I’m presently finishing-up time codes for Part One of Lugana’s Gambit, and I completely missed a joke Isa Wills made during the session about hiding treasure in mattresses. Note to all my future DW players: if I specifically call out the presence of a mattress in a scene, there is definitely treasure in it.

Also:

-Prayer plinths are usually hollow and contain treasure or notes relevant to the adventure.

-If there are a bunch of opened, empty foot lockers in a room, the one that is closed-up definitely has treasure plus poisonous spores.

-If you see a skeleton floating down a corridor, that’s probably a gelatinous cube.

-If you put your hand in something dark or crevasse-like, you will likely be stung by a cave scorpion.

-If I describe a door or wall with an image carved in bas relief, that relief can probably be slid back to reveal a secret compartment.

A long-time Company of the Three Kings member passed beyond the Black Gate of Death tonight. Rook the halfling thief made it all the way to Level 9, which is as high as I’ve ever seen a character go in all my games of DW. He was a great character, and he will be missed.

On the plus side, Aniket Schneider’s description of Rook’s Black Gate was really good. It involved Rook seeing all the treasures he left behind in his career waiting for him on the other side. I like the idea he passed beyond the Black Gate in order to finish the job.

I can’t decide if this is the worst thing or the best thing.

I can’t decide if this is the worst thing or the best thing.

I can’t decide if this is the worst thing or the best thing. At a glance, I love the idea, but there are a few things that concern me:

1. KS electronic hardware almost never achieves the level of mainstream adoption necessary for developers to continue supporting it. This problem is compounded by the $500 price tag post-KS announcement.

2. It appears you have to leave it plugged-in while playing.

3. The early emphasis on amiibo/Disney Infinity figurine support leads me to believe a) board games might get de-emphasized as they develop this thing and b) they’re just chasing money. Also, I’m not an IP lawyer, but this all seems really sketchy from a licensing standpoint.

Thoughts?
