CROWDSOURCING

Session Zero 7 is nearly complete, but I need some help generating a list of 50 “interesting features you’ll find in a village”.

Here’s a sample of the type of stuff I’m looking for…

1 a statue near the well that animates to defend the village

2 a dilapidated church on the village outskirts

3 a blind farmer who grows the best crops

4 a painting of an ancient scholar which will answer one question each day

5 an abandoned tower or keep

6 a hanging tree, complete with hangings old and new

If you create a feature I use in the table, you’ll get your name in the credits (inside front cover) of the issue!

Here is my take on spell casting in the Dark Sun setting. I’ll be play testing it with some other Dark Sun material with my home group tomorrow night. Any and all feedback between now and then would be appreciated.

It uses the standard “Cast a spell” entry from the rulebook (page 144) and only adds in the two casting modes. I went this way because I don’t think it’s necessary to spell out setting-specific consequences in the move (except for defiling and preserving) because if we’re doing what we’re supposed to with DW, all of that will come from the setting and fiction anyway. THE thing that makes magic different in Dark Sun is defiling (and less powerful but friendlier preserving) IMO.

Notes:

He’s playing a Human Wizard and took Animate Dead as his Cleric Spell.

I have already discussed the trigger and Practiced Animation with him.

I’m most likely finishing my Dungeon World Death Frost Doom (DFD) campaign tomorrow night and am reading Scenic Dunnsmouth (SD) now. I have an idea that I want to run past you and see if anyone has tried it, and maybe get some help developing it. Its main inspiration is Jason Cordova’s Keeper campaign, which featured multiple but different “Lord Caspian Gaul” balls.

The Time Cube (in SD) is made up of hundreds of thousands of the crude snow-globes which are the tiny experimental universes suspended in liquid time (Shrine room 11 in DFD). The cube can still have (mostly) the same time-dilation effect, but touching one of the globes causes you to trade places with a character from another universe.

Two things to note:

1) I have 10 players wanting to play, so I’m going to have 3 separate groups in alternate universes crossing over into each other’s games. That’s the main reason I want to go with SD because it will lessen my work load (I hope anyway) by simply generating (actually hand-picking) three different versions of the village. The DFD globes just really cemented the idea in my head.

2) I’m imagining a Star Trek: The Next Generation “All Good Things” finale, where the groups from all three universes have to converge at the same time to destroy the time cube, which may or may not trap characters in the “wrong” universe.

This MAY be biting off more than I can chew… Any thoughts?

Here’s a PWYW product based on a couple of articles I wrote for GnomeStew last year. It’s a method I use to create adventures, and was used to create the adventures seen in issues 4 and 5 of my Dungeon World zine The Destroyer of Ages (available now on DTRPG) and The Frost Giant’s Gambit (available at the end of this month).

It may not be for everyone, but it has really helped me simplify the process of designing adventures.
