If you are interested in become a Pateron of gauntlet so that you can get a heads up In doing online gaming how does one go about doing that?
Does that give me a better chance of getting into a DW game online? They always seem full for the time slots I have available.
My real goal is to run one, it I understand the need to get some play time to build up trust.
What sort of gear do I need for online gaming? Besides a computer and internet connection. An old grognard here, I haven’t done any on,one gaming before, but think it might work better than random group of strangers in game store.
Right now I am mostly interested in DW. But I also like me some Polaris.
Peace, and apologies in advance for dumb questions.
These aren’t dumb questions at all.
In addition to a computer and internet connection, you will need headphones and a mic.
Most players also use video cameras to see the players, but this isn’t a requirement.
To play comfortably, a second monitor is nice. I use one monitor to see the GM and other players, and one monitor to have the character sheets for the players up.
Unfortunately, the Patreon level to get early access to game sign-ups is limited and has no openings.
If you are from a marginalized community (women, people of color, queer, or facing financial hardship), there are options. Please contact Jason or Lowell about how this works.
Please be patient for a reply, as GauntletCon just completed yesterday, and people are likely still recovering.
I would suggest you still join the Patreon if possible, as the benefits are fantastic (Codex, slack channel, etc.
When early reservation levels open up, they are sometimes posted to the Slack group.
If you haven’t seen it, I’d suggest you check out the Codex Kickstarter (kickstarter.com – Codex RPG Zine, Volume 1 Hardcover).
It is full of fantastic Dungeon World content, and the hard copy is limited to the Kickstarter.
There are example issues of Codex on the Kickstarter webpage to see what it is like.
Again, be patient. Running a Kickstarter is like another full time job, and it is in the last five days.
This last days of the KS are very hectic for the organizers, and they are likely over booked at the moment.
They are good people, and will get back to you when they can. 🙂
Finally, if you are interested in DMing for the Gauntlet, Lowell Francis is a good place to start. He has several videos on how to run online, and organizes the Gauntlet GMs. 🙂
Welcome to the Gauntlet!

Good answers. Also, the Slack team available to Patreon backers can get you into pickup games that aren’t even on the calendar, or give you a good place to arrange your own.

Thank you. I was interested in the Pateron level primarily to be able to get into a game. Like many Middle age folks with family, time is a precious commodity with work, especially if you travel a lot. So what I was really looking for was a serious group to play a light hearted game. I recognize if I haven’t played online before I should probably play online before I run online. I understand the need to give priority to those in marginalized community to build and grow a more diverse game community. But I do not fit that. So basically getting a Pateron would be for the codex and the slack (which I don’t know what one of those are).
So in the mean time should I just try to squeeze into a game if I am lucky or should I try to run one? And contact Lowell Francis? I am patient and understand that there was a con and a kick starter. Not in a huge rush. I waited several years before getting into gaming last time and I can do so again. Peace.

If you want to play with The Gauntlet, but you can’t find open games, my advice is hop onto a waiting list. You will find that frequently somebody will drop and you can hop in (I got in off a waiting list for a game this Wednesday I’m super excited about, for example.) Looking forward to playing with you!

Yeah I will try that. Was told had to wait 6 days before RSVPing.

1) I think they’ve covered the equipment/set up angle pretty well.
2) We have a one-week window for the $7 patrons when new games are posted, but after that anyone can sign up (regardless of being a patron or not). As Jesse says, if you see something interesting, sign up for the waitlist. I’d say at least half my games have people shift up off the waitlist. Usually about a week out from the game’s start (when I send out reminders) things shake out for me. Others may have a different experience.
3) We have a channel on the Gauntlet Slack for pick-up games, setting up off Gauntlet campaigns, and for GMs to advertise last minute openings. That’s a bennie for the $6 level (in addition to the Codex, supporting the podcasts, videos, etc). Slack’s an organizational messaging app.
4) You can also post in this group if you’re looking for players. I don’t know the success rate of that, especially with folks beginning to migrate away from G+. But it might be a decent way to make contacts.

Lowell Francis hi Lowell thank you. I will look into the 6$ patron. Regarding running a game I understand you are the person to talk to. Can I send you a message with a pitch to see about setting one up. I am more of a GM than player, and have played and run DW before? Thanks I have put in waitlist for several games I will see if they pop free.

So does a lot more happen on slack than G+? Are you more likely to get a group together for a game on slack?

Lowell Francis email sent let me know if you don’t get it for some reason. Not rushing anyone I appreciate that there is a lot going on for the organizers of this community. Peace,
