Y’aaaaaaall!

Y’aaaaaaall!

Y’aaaaaaall! It’s been so long! But I’m in an airport and I’m really excited about things to come. So we’re gonna do stars and wishes! It’s really easy and really fun and you get to tell each other things that you’re really proud of!

Star: what did you do that was exciting? New? Adventurous? A learning experience?

Wish: WHAT’S NEXT? What are you going to try to achieve in the next two weeks? How are you going to change your little corner of the world?

Fuck the haters. Tell me how you’re kickin’ it.

  1. Star: oh man, so I’m finally playtesting my game and it’s giving me really great feedback. Games full of awesome people and they’re engaging so much with it. And it got a name! Home Front is going to be something, I think!

Wish: HEX.CO monster of the week is this month and the first session was really good. I want to ensure I play that right, there’s a lot of craziness going on, so it’d mean a lot for me to get this game on tone and working.

  3. Star Ran two games of Urban Shadows at DexCon: the first was pretty good, but the second one was excellent. Both games had great players, but with some minor tweaks on my part, the second session let the players with their characters shine!

Wish Want to run more games like that, including revamping my approach to Libreté to take what I learned from the Gauntlet players and the DexCon US games into account!

  5. Stars and wishes!! Uhhh jeeze let me think~~

Star: Had great playtesting of Girl Underground with my sister, and spent the next day or so refining some of the design with Jesse Ross. I’m so pumped with what we have so far, and I can’t wait to bring it to the rest of the Gauntlet in August.

Wish: That future Lauren can manage a good balance between life admin and game design to where she feels mutually productive, and not stressed as fuck come next week. Success in this capacity will be determined by how anxious I feel on a scale of 1 to fuuuuuuuck.

  7. Star: I just submitted a rough draft of material to go in a future issue of Codex!

Wish: It’s a rough draft, so I’m hoping it is received well enough, and also hoping to playtest it as much as I can.

  9. Star: I had a wonderful session of Mechanical Oryx/Maze Rats for my CodeX-Files series. I was also very happy and gratified that my game offering for the new Gauntleteers filled even though it’s in a somewhat odd time slot.

Wish: I wrote a first draft for a game, which I have never done before. I have had some very helpful feedback and I hope I can push myself to edit it to where I want it to be.

  11. Stars: definitely Lowell Francis and Jason Cordova’s design work, as well as their discussion about their games. Reading other people’s work and feeling their excitement really got me excited about a new project of mine, my FLCL PbtA Hack. I really like that it feels like everyone’s exciting and inspiring one another; it’s a great feeling to be a part that.

Wishes: to complete the first draft of Hack the Planet. Right now that is my Everest.

  13. Star : Finally ran MOTW. Watched tons of The Grim/Lost Girl/Buffy/Supernatural in the past. Watched Rich & Jasons youtube series. Went well, thanks to my genre saturation it was not hard to think of ideas (the saturation was from love of the genre).

Definitely recommend MOTW for GMs new to PBTA.

Wish : Hope to do more. My home group just ended a game so I offered MOTW and they are keen. Will be Dresden based, but I wanna make it fun. MOTW will be my game when i’m not running my own game of Conjure Hagalaz.

  15. Star: I feel like this Monsterhearts game I’m running with the Gauntlet is some of my best MCing work (the players are definitely helping) – like I’m handling spotlighting well, asking good questions and incorporating.

Wish: In both that MH game and my regular f2f Masks game I’m integrating new players in the next week; which is tricky at the best of times – making sure their characters fit in and add something meaningful and significant to the game.

  17. Star: Absolutely incredible/moving/powerful/heartbreaking/life-affirming game of Catherine Ramen’s Red Carnations on a Black Grave at Dexcon this weekend with Seraphina Malizia, Lucian Kahn, Richard Ruane, and Lisa Padol. I am still processing what happened in it, swaying between the verge of tears and my heart filled with the possibilities of life.

Wish: Hoping to get into a game or two this week to postpone Con Drop. 😉

  19. Star: I played a mashup of Mechanical Oryx and Maze Rats facilitated by Tyler Lominack and the worldbuilding was amazing! The cast of players was perfect too. Wish: I’d like to get over this jetlag and get back to game design.

  21. Star: I played my first game w/ the Gauntlet in Tyler Lominack’s gorgeous mashup. It was everything I could have hoped for and more. Great worldbuilding, great play. Two years of following the Gauntlet, but always being unavailable or uncertain about playing online, melted away in moments.

Wish: I’ve applied for my dream job, a job I have held before at a different university in a different state. I’m intensely anxious but intensely focused on gaining back something fate took away from me.

  23. Star: I’ve worked on three online character sheets for games I’m interested in running and playing. I think I’m getting better at making them visually distinct and useful. Making a character sheet helps me to understand the rules of the game better, and helps me organize information during the game more easily.

Wish: I’m going to be running a new round of Mandatory Fun Club to train new Gauntlet Hangouts GMs. I hope that I will get over my impostor syndrome and create a fun and safe environment for new GMs!
