Hi everyone;

Hi everyone;

Hi everyone;

My name is Γ–mer Aybars Yurdun and I am living in Δ°stanbul and playing rpgs since ’98.

I am running various games for my friends for about 3 years (Call of Cthulhu, Unknown Armies, Ten Candles, Apocalypse World, etc..). A couple of months ago I tried to run Sorcerer from Ron Edwards after I had run a couple of sessions of Apocalypse World. However the session didn’t went as I have expected.

Now I would like to participate in a Sorcerer game as a player to see how can or should it be run. I don’t know if this place is suitable for this kind of question but i searched the net and couldn’t find a suitable site for asking such question ( and I am sorry if this is a wrong one) but if you can add me to an online Sorcerer game as a player I will be really glad.

Wishing you a fine day,

Aybars

  1. Hi Pedro ; so it is you in the video πŸ™‚ Actually I checked the Gauntlet sessions and quite impressed with it. I will look to Musik as well; honestly I was looking for an actual gaming experience in order to take my notes and develop my sense for Sorcerer. Thanks for your input πŸ™‚

  3. Musik was done as a bit of a “teaching sessions” kind of thing. It pays off to both listen and see the vids, because Ron puts extra stuff in there.

    But yes, playing is better. Unfortunately, few people run Sorcerer compared to PbtA etc. I don’t think there’s many people in The Gauntlet community that care that much for Sorcerer, but who knows. I won’t be running a game anytime soon., otherwise I’d take you in.

    Good luck!

  5. Dear Tor hello;

    I can give you a small list about it:

    1- The Faustian Deal: playing a character that wishes to accomplish some tasks that are undouable without the help of some external and semi-contrallable force.

    2- Playing a tragic hero just as in a theatrical play: Like Macbeth (I didn’t want to quote the book and write Medea :)), Hartigan from Sin City, John Constantine or even Anakin Skywalker πŸ™‚ . I can name other inspirations as well but walking a certain doomed path while still trying to achieve personal ( and maybe somewhat positive) goals is a strong inspiration as a character for me.

    3- Freedom on Generating Core Concepts and Creating the World: Just like PBTA games πŸ™‚

    4- Non Linearity: Just Like PBTA games and – who knows- maybe more of it?

    5- As a personal note; as I have written in my first post; develop my sense and perception of Sorcerer in order to run it here locally.

    I hope above points are ok for your as well.

    September is ok for me except for the first week as I will on holidays.

    Thank you so much for your kind interest πŸ™‚

  7. I’ve only played a few sessions if Sorcerer but my impression is that it’s not a great fit for the gauntlet format. It’s pretty rules intense in a way that takes time to explore them, and it felt like it could take a while to hit the tension point where characters have slid too much. I had some similiar issues running Unknown Armies in the community. That doesn’t mean a person shouldn’t give it a try here, but more that those familiar enough to run the game are likely wary of the challenges.

  9. Hi David, thanks for you input. I’ve run UA many times and the only problem that i have encountered was the challenge of maintaining the level of bizareness as players knew more and more about it. UA is a great shocker when it comes new players but maybe experienced players might get a fairly solid idea about what’s going on?

  11. UA kinda has two types of games, ones that are about shock over the occult, and ones where characters do something about it. My experience was that the 3rd ed campaign rules don’t work for the first kind of game, I mean if you ignored them and ran a scenario it’d be fine by my guess. My experience makes me think that Sorcerer is the same way, but I just don’t see how you can run a shock campaign with it when you’re keyed into the world’s one big secret.

  13. David Rothfeder I see your point however I didn’t inspected the 3rd edition rules; despite the fact that I’ve backed the Kickstarter at PDF level -and they look very nice πŸ™‚ I might be also interested in joining a 3rd edition UA game for a fresh look from a player’s perspective πŸ™‚

  15. It’s true that Sorcerer isn’t a particularly good choice when you have to a priori decide how many sessions a game will take, which is by necessity how games are run in the Gauntlet. GMs will tend to have to apply a bit more direction to keep things going then they would if time wasn’t a constraint.

    With that said, I think things can be made to work without having to go to one of those “convention” scenarios in the book and supplements. For example, I once ran Sorcerer & Sword without kickers. Instead, I started the game in media res and the situation itself was constrained and delimited to the extent that the kickers’ role in the game wasn’t as important as usual. The scenario was pretty much a rip off of Xuthal of the Dusk, begining with the characters (a couple of them, as I remember) starting lost in the desert and seeing the eponymous Xuthal in the shimering distance. In a game setup like this, you could probably run and manage the game by establishing e.g. a 3-session run.

  17. Aybars Yurdun cool. It definitely sounds like Sorcerer is the game you’re looking for.

    Would you be more interested in playing core Sorcerer or the fantasy variation Sorcerer and Sword?

  19. Tor Erickson hello; I think I will be more interested with core sorcerer but since Sorcerer and Sword is also an important aspect of the game I can be interested in that as well. What do you have in mind?
