Consequences of skipping the Aid roll when it “doesn’t matter”:
o The person giving aid is effectively denied some spotlight time.
o The person giving aid cannot trigger a GM move by failing to aid.
o The person giving aid cannot gain xp by failing to aid.

I think the reason we have taken to doing it the way we do is that the actions being undertaken for Aid don’t usually feel as high stakes or interesting as the principal move. If it were up to me, Aid wouldn’t even be a move in Powered by the Apocalypse games because it’s almost always kind of boring.
