Love the steampunk setting. I’m a sucker for any game like Space:1889 or CastleFalkenstein.

Suggestions on PBtA strampunk games?? Or maybe FATE would be even better.

  1. Hi there. I’m the line developer for 1879. CoreStep was developed for Earthdawn. It uses a progressive dice system where you modify which dice you roll, but not the roll itself.

  3. Okay, so your Attributes (DEX, STR, etc) have a Step value. This adds to your Skill Rank to produce your total Step, which determines your dice. The Step number is the average roll on the specified dice. So if you have a Step 7 DEX and a Melee Weapons of 3, that gives you a Step 10 for your to-hit, which means you pick up 2d8. If you go aggressive, that gives you +3 to-hit, which means you’re at a Step 13, and you pick up d12+d10. If your enemy has a Physical Defense of 9, you’ve only got an average chance of hitting with your Step 10, but a much better chance if you go aggressive. Just bear in mind that going aggressive drops your defense, so your enemy gets a +3 to hit you back. Also, the system has exploding dice, so the more dice you pick up, the more a chance of a roll-up you get. It’s designed to scale epically, to produce cinematic levels of action for legendary-status characters.
