We have a fantastic episode of The Gauntlet Podcast for you this week. Kate Bullock and I are joined by Marissa Kelly of Magpie Games for an episode we’re calling “GMing 201.” We deal with some advanced GM topics, such as Trusting the Story, Finding the Scene, Killing Your Darlings, Reading the Table, and more!

Thanks to Paul Edson for this week’s edit.

Enjoy!

  1. re GM books, loved cyberpunk 2020s ‘Listen up you primative screwheads’-said instead of killing pcs – blow up their car, steal their stuff, kidnap their cyber surgeon. challenging without killing gives room them room be creative & motivates them. Made my WoD & D&D games so much more dynamic

  3. Re: pet NPCs, the absolute smartest thing Monsterhearts 2 (and there is a lot of smart stuff in MH2) is renaming PCs and NPCs as Main Characters and Side Characters. It tells you, without having to hammer it home, that the player’s characters are the stars.

  5. Great episode! I do like my cinematic action shots haha. My favourite was when I was describing a really cheesy action shot and Jason was like, “is this movie directed by Michael Bay?” A: yes, haha.
