GAUNTLET CON ANNOUNCEMENT:

Becky Annison Running Games at Gauntlet Con

Becky Annison is the award-winning designer of the critically acclaimed games Lovecraftesque and When the Dark is Gone, and is one half of the small press publisher Black Armada games. Becky has been in love with gaming for 26 years and likes to write, run and play games that give you intense feels. She also speaks and writes about RPG design and inclusivity and diversity. When not gaming, Becky likes knitting and detective stories. Becky is relentlessly cheerful, ridiculously creative and so modest she had to get someone else to write this.

Becky will be running Bite Me!

Bite Me! iI a tense and emotional game of Werewolf Pack dynamics as Powered by the Apocalypse.

Your Alpha is missing, taken by a new and unknown force. Time to put down old rivalries, forget hurts and pause affairs of the heart (if you can) – you are on the hunt. But with no Alpha the Pack will start to fall apart. Can you find your Alpha in time? Will another step up to lead when it is needed and will they let go the reigns of power when all is done?

Arcane Guilds, Crime, Equality, Family, Military, Nature, Religion, Society.

Eg; My character values Equality, strives against Religion & is indifferent to Arcane Guilds.

I’m looking at news reports of the devastation in Houston, and it’s making me really sad.

I’m looking at news reports of the devastation in Houston, and it’s making me really sad. Houston, of course, is where the Gauntlet was born. It’s a place where I made many terrific, lifelong friends. It’s a place where some of my favorite memories were made.

I’m sad and a little frustrated, too, because a lot of the social media chatter I’m seeing is very “well, global warming, duh!” with the implication that Houston is getting what it deserves because so much of its economy depends on the energy industry and because Houston is in a deep-red state.

Something I experience a lot as a Texan “living abroad” is talking to other liberals who have the most uninformed, bird’s-eye view of Texas imaginable. Texas is a big, culturally-complex state. Houston is one of the most diverse, reliably Democratic cities in the whole fucking country. Corpus Christi, also hit hard by the hurricane, is a majority-Hispanic city.

Anyway… It’s a scary time. If anyone reading this has been affected by the storm, please stay safe and let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

Hi again everyone.

Hi again everyone.

Hi again everyone. Thanks for all your advice on my post about attracting more viewers to my blog. Several people said I should put a link to the site in my post, which I was reluctant to do, but I’ve included one here.

I’d love to run a Fate game for Gauntlet people, but I won’t be able to do that for a while. I’m a good 12 hours ahead of most people over here in Osaka, and while I could run video chat games at night or on the weekends, my four-month old puts the kibosh on that. 😉

So for now, I’ll just try to be an active presence here. Self-promotion is not something I’m good at, as I don’t want to be pushy. I’ll drop a post about what I’m doing over on my blog every once in awhile though.

Thanks again for approving my membership, and for the advice. 😀

Pining for Polyhedrons

My group has really embraced 2d6+STAT and the beauty of 7-9, despite having come up in the time of THAC0 and non-weapon proficiencies. We don’t pine for critical hits (or misses) now that we’ve switched over to Dungeon World. However, we do have big bags of dice that feel… underused.

Sometimes I miss rolling them, so please share with me how you have incorporated d20s into DW.

Edit: I guess I’m thinking about a custom move or an advance. Something that would let the players actually roll the d20s.

This is amazing! It only makes me want to play Legacy more! I looked this up after listening to +1 Forward episode about Legacy, but only gave it a run today.

I’m curious.

I’m curious.

I’m curious. We have a lot of game designers who are part of this community. Would it be helpful to have GM’s who are willing to take the work in progress and put it through it’s paces? Would it be a help to see someone run your game(perhaps with you playing) during your process? I don’t design, but I’d happily road test what more creative minds produce. Is this something that would be useful?Anyone interested in this?
