Reposting here because I really value the Gauntleteers’ collective experience with online play and I’m sure I’ll get good answers from you.

Anyone got a suggestion on what tool I should use for online play to model my game’s Struggle map?
The map itself is in an image below. The trick is, as we play, we’re going to need to drop chips that are individualized to each player (e.g., I’ve got black, you’ve got red, she’s got blue).
Anyone got a suggestion for how to pull this off?
You could make them cells in a Google sheet and change the background color of the cells according to the assigned chip colors. Or if you know how to use Roll 20 but I don’t.

Background image with Struggle Map placed on http://rollforyour.party, then use the tokens to cover them.

If you want to use Roll20 … use that image as the background map and then give each player control of a unique token. The players can copy and paste new versions of their unique token if more than one is required. I can set up an example version for you very quickly if you like.

I find an appeal to trying to use Shane Liebling’s rollforyour.party; do you think it’d be a good fit, Shane?

Yeah. Just toss the image on imgur.com or something and then grab the link. Plug it into the background setting field. Use tokens for marking. Good to go.

I’d second using rollforyour.party – alternatively an online sharing whiteboard could work alright. I used Ziteboard for this kind of thing.

Roll20 map. You can make each square match a square on the grid except for the 7 use 4 squares and then drop tokens as needed.

The downside of Roll20 is resource intensiveness and requiring a solid connection, while rollforyour.party – Roll For Your Party is very low resource. Also, roll20 has a definite learning curve. It’s a great tool, especially for tactical games, but I think it’s overkill in this instance.

Just to clarify, I don’t think Roll20 is the ideal answer. Just saying that it would work in a pinch.
