When playing Misspent Youth does the authority keep each number she claimed from scene to scene?

When playing Misspent Youth does the authority keep each number she claimed from scene to scene? Or does the board clear and start fresh in each act?

  1. Yes, it does clear from scene to scene. And it is actually possible for your heroes to win against the Authority! Probably rare, but my group did it at Camp Nerdly! Of course, we had to sell out to get there, but…

And the game plays amazing. Parents of teenagers get to channel their kids. The mechanics are simple and fun, and watching the numbers get covered builds the tension exquisitely!

  3. Both times I played I was the only person at the table who read the rules. Once as the authority and once as a YO. Both times the YOs won. I felt the authority didn’t push and make hard enough moves especially when I was the antagonist. Any advice on how to be tougher on the YOs?

  5. You folks are right. The board is cleared of all tokens between Struggles.

As for how to make it harder: when you frame scenes, put them in deep shit. Also, make sure your objective in a Struggle is horrifyingly awful. If you win, they lose their hideout, or someone they love dies, etc. You can learn how to calibrate for that group, something so awful that they have to respond, but not so awful there’s no tension about whether someone would sell out.

Thanks, Shervyn and Aaron! I would’ve found this one anyway (I’m. notification-subscribed to this Community), but I really appreciate the tagging.

  7. Thanks, I will make sure the authority in my next session gets the message. My DW game on Saturdays is winding up either today or next week. When it ends I want to play M.Y.
