Reason 327 that I like PbtA: The GM does not arbitrarily set a “target” number. It’s always the same “target”. The GM only decides, based on the fiction, when a move is actually triggered.

(Plus of course what the outcomes of the die rolls are; but that’s a different reason…)

  1. Ha! I think it’s more arbitrary because the GM is responsible for coming up with the entire outcome. That’s OK with me though because it gives the GM greater input to the narrative outcome of the roll. (Actually it’s not just OK, it’s something I love about PBTA!)
