One aspect of party dynamics I’m always working on, is bringing each character’s motivations in line with each other in a believable way.

You know what I mean: When you have a ragtag group of misfits who all want different things, but are working together regardless – well, why regardless? How can we reveal their inner motives for being in the party? What is the nuance of their relationship with their comrades?

Bonds help somewhat but I find that they don’t often come up in salient ways. That’s why I wrote this move!

Campfire Stories

When your party has made camp, in the quiet moments between finishing your meal and crawling into your bedroll, roll Campfire Stories and then tell a story about your past.

On a 10+, you’ve centered yourself and are reminded of who you truly are. Lose all INT, WIS, CHA debilities and gain two hold.

On a 7-9, gain one hold, but discuss how your teammates completely misinterpret the point of your story.

-You come to a revelation about your nature. Gain one experience point.

-You’ve bared your soul to those you trust. Your entire party gains +1 forward to any action related to you (alternatively, the entire party gains one hold automatically the next time they Defend you).

-A party member recognizes some part of your story: a shared friend, a common goal, or “I was there that day!” The two of you take +1 continuing when acting together for the rest of the session.
