What are some of your favorite things to treat your characters with in PBTA games? I mean, when they roll a custom move what are your favorite good options? What are the options that you like to punish your characters with?

  1. I remember this one time I was running DW and I made the most fitting move I have ever made.

One of the players was a Cleric of Nothingness. As such, he made a lot of puns about nothing.

At one point, his character befriended a high priest of another faith. Long story short, shit happened and the rest of the party had to fight said high priest. The Cleric was stuck in a tornado created by the other priest. He used divine guidance to ask his god what to do.

I told him to do nothing.

He did so, and the other priest noticed that he was there and the tornado subsided.

tl;dr The best things to do are those that make sense for the characters.

  3. I’m writing these moves for first-session love letters so I don’t actually even know what classes my players are going to be playing, much less anything about their non-existent characters.

I’m trying to come up with non-class specific bonuses or hard moves for them and all in coming up with is “you get a horse” or “you get a hireling” and so forth. I guess I need to throw more creativity at it. I was just looking for a little inspiration from you beautiful people.
