Please forgive me if this isn’t allowed here, but I’m looking for suggestions for a made-for-2-players GMless rpg that I can play with a fellow rpg lover. Preferably one we can do with little prep over a few beers. Microscope looks fun as hell, but would only make us want to play within our created world, which is hard as there is only two of us.

  1. Mars Colony isn’t exactly GMless, but it requires no prep, and so may serve a similar purpose. Same for Murderous Ghosts. If you don’t mind painting on your arm, I’m told How We Are Like the Storm is cool. As for Microscope, you might find the hack Kaleidoscope both more approachable and laid back.

  3. What kind of game are you looking for? Young at Heart works well with two players.

The hour between dog and wolf. Mars colony, shooting the moon, breaking the ice, murderous ghosts. Kazekami Kyoko Kills Kublai Khan… maybe Scarlet heroes…

  5. Jason Cordova beat me to my two suggestions, but I’ll echo Mars Colony and Murderous Ghosts both. Mars Colony: 39 Dark is a separate but related game that may also suit.

  7. There’s a podcast somewhere where they played 2 player Dungeon World. Each player had a character and made GM moves for the other player. Sounded like a neat setup.

  9. If you’re interested in a more investigative game, Pelgrane are bringing out Gumshoe 1-to-1 very soon. It’s an adaptation of the Gumshoe system to work with one player and one GM, set in a noir 1930s Cthulhu-influenced setting. It’s coming with three different campaigns to run through to cover three different flavours of noir, and I’m very excited to see it 😀

  11. Awesome suggestions. I’ve got a lot of reading to do.  Thanks for all the suggestions.  We’re going to go with The Skeletons on saturday.  Looking forward to many more adventures.
