Our new Patreon goal is Gauntlet Con!

When we hit our next Patreon goal, we will begin organizing an annual online gaming convention called Gauntlet Con! A lot of the details are still up in the air, but here are some things we are looking to include:

-A weekend of game events and panels (obviously)

-A social lounge

-A game design competition leading up to the Con

-A special issue of Codex to commemorate the festivities

It’s still early days (we’re only about 2/3 of the way to the goal), but here is what I need from you guys: ideas for special game events to be held over the course of the Con weekend. I’m thinking about things like our Dia De Los Muertos event we did over Halloween, or like a huge, multi-party dungeon. If you have a cool, novel idea for a game event that we could do, let me know in the comments!

And if you’re not supporting the Gauntlet on Patreon, please consider doing so!

Thanks!

  1. Well, it seems some sort of mass initiation rite involving playing The Final Girl would be appropriate… 🙂 An opening ceremony, of sorts.

  3. I think it would be pretty cool to have a series of linked games designed to create a centuries-spanning timeline of events.

I’m thinking it could start out with Microscope to establish the outer bounds and some major events, and have the following games flesh out and add to those events, adding new cards to the timeline.

A game of Continuum (or some more accessible time travel RPG), with players working to preserve or alter events directly. A generation spanning game like No Country for Old Kobolds, following a family or culture through the centuries. A game of Apocalypse World or Fallen Empires to see how the end of days plays out. And so on.

  5. I also like the idea of linked games, or even mash-ups like the one Gregory Davis-Owen posted about. Dia De Los Muertos was a cool experience. I would like to see a string of different game systems with a common theme or story. Ghost Lines > Ghost/Echo > Blades in the Dark. You don’t have to participate in each game, but your contributions affect the story that will be set up in the next session. I think that will help foster a sense of collaboration and community at Gauntlet Con!

  7. Here are my thoughts on what I’d like to see on the Gauntlet and a Gauntlet Con going forward:

Community principles on how to play and how to GM (the X-card, inclusivity, signing up for and dropping out of games, who can run games, etc.) I feel as we grow larger some of the oral traditions should be written down for reference.

I’d love a little more than games – some best practices, tips and tools of the trade for running games. Exchanged between new GMs and old hands alike.

I love the idea of a game design collaboration, more than I love the idea of a game design competition. The Gauntlet has been a good place for playtests. So why not do a Metatopia-style of round robin everyone brings their game to test?

The Gauntlet canon – a list of all games we’ve played, with comments where we have them, and maybe a special label for the games we love to play again and again.

Don’t forget the international Gauntleers! I loved VirtuaCon’s idea of gaming around the clock. 48 continuous hours of online games, two times around the globe. And let’s put a pin on the map for every single Gauntleer out there!

  9. I can’t recall the name but we once played an adventurer party speed dating thing in FtF Houston Gauntlet. I can imagine a big list of participating G+ names and a set time for us to try to call (over hangouts) as many as possible and introduce ourselves (in character). When the time is up we can all vote on who we want in the party and you could anounce the winner. I think that could be handled in Google docs

  11. I’d like to see an interactive DW game where everyone is playing the same adventure (or front) with the same goal (maybe fending off an invading force from another plane), and the results of one adventure would pass from group to group.

For instance, a group in Houston may delay the invaders, the group in Austrailia wins a major battle, and the UK team closes the portal to the other plane–ending the threat.

That sort of play ties in well with the Living Campaign aspect of the Three Kings theme.

Other possible fronts could be finding a lost treasure–each table could be looking for clues–or winning a race–each table is a stage in a relay.

It would also be cool if people gathered together locally–if they can–for GauntletCon (at a store, home or restaurant). Each of these locations would be linked by Hangouts computers/phones/tablets at that location to the other players across the world.
