Good evening.

Good evening.

Good evening. I was wondering if there was an online resource with more spells for DW somewhere? (lightning bolt, etc) I’ve asked on the Dungeon World Tavern G+ and they’ve directed me to the Class Warfare book. That’s fine but I don’t want to invest in almost 20$ (I’m Canadian) without knowing what I’m getting. So you people have so interesting pointers for me? 😆

  1. Lighting bolt is just a fireball that happens in a straight line, no? In general it seems pretty easy to convert a spell from D&D: just take the described effect and apply it in a looser way. If it does damage, use the existing spells as a reference point for deciding how much. If it ends up feeling too powerful or overused, punish them more harshly when they fail to cast it.

  3. Saul Alexander I would correct the last bit to “if it ends up being a bad fit for whatever reason, talk to the player about it and come to an appropriate compromise, which may involve rewriting it.”

  5. Sure – talking to the player should always be part of it in DW, in addition to any in-game consequences (i.e. the player should be up for the downside too, if that’s what you’re doing).

  7. Thanks guys.

Simpler is better. I always have the reflex to add stuff when in truth all is in the conversation and the fiction. This probably comes from the fact I haven’t actually played yet. I’m aggressively planning to remedy that in 2017. I’ll start a regular game on Mondays. I’ve pitched the game to a few people at my job and their showing interest. Now I only need them to actually show up at a table. Jedi Mind Trick powers would be greatly appreciated right now lol.

  9. I have a supplement for spellcasters in the works. Along with some more converted spells from old school D&D, I will have some new classes with brand new spells, some magic items, and a new magic resource system for Dungeon World that my group has been using and enjoying. I’ll post on here when it finally goes up on drivethru or wherever I end up placing it.
