I’m here through binging on the Discern Realities podcast after someone posted about it on /r/DungeonWorld last week.

I’m new to dungeon world and haven’t played much tabletop but some friends expressed interest in playing which led to me finding DW as the game I want to run which led… here.

Is there something like a discord or google hangouts group connected to this community? I had assumed that that’s what the “Gauntlet Hangouts” link was going to be in the sidebar here, but that actually leads to an apparently defunct meetup page.

  1. Welcome! Please, ask as many questions as you need. I’ve found this community to be one of the best on the net.

DW is by far my favorite system now. Its changed my mentality from “One die to rule them all” to “powers, skills, feats…HA”

  3. Hey glad you found us through Discern Realities! Jason and I have a ton of fun making the show and one of the most rewarding things for me from it is when new players join our community. It looks like everyone is showing you some good links to get you plugged in! Feel free to message me if you need help figuring anything out.

  5. Thanks for the responses, Robert Doe, Lowell Francis, Slade Stolar. I guess the word “hangouts” mentioned in the DR podcast made me think that there was a live chat (think IRC) going on. For some other special interests I’m part of groups on discord and on google hangouts… I guess I was wondering if there is an online informal conversation that’s more like a chat and less like a forum or “wall”.

  7. Joby Morey I’m glad you’re enjoying the show! The advice here re: Gauntlet Hangouts is very sound. Bookmark the calendar and join the G+ Community. Anyone can join a game so long as there is space. As for a more informal chat area, we have the Gauntlet Slack group, which is where a lot of us hangout online, but it’s limited to people who support us on Patreon at the $7+ level. Outside of that, this community is a pretty great place for conversation, too. It’s very active and very friendly. Seriously – we are the friendliest RPG group on the planet, haha.

  9. David LaFreniere missed your response before… Never really used g+ despite joining back when it first started.

Super grateful for the time that you’ve put into the podcast. I’ve listened to something like 15 hours of conversation with you over the last few days, so I have that funny thing happening where it seems like i know you.

I’ll post a trip report after we get a session or two in, but I’m excited to find a system that looks great to me for friends with no tabletop experience. One friend in particular was intrigued by the game the kids were playing in Stranger Things… That led to me looking for a game that was less about lawyering and susceptible to munchkins and more about structure that aids collaborative fiction. DW looks like just what I want.

I’ve played a bit over the years in various systems but never gmed face to face.

  11. Jason Cordova I went ahead and joined the patreon at the $7 level. I was planning on doing so anyway, but this was a good reminder to just go ahead and do it :o)

Thanks again for all the time you’ve spent that already has helped me.
