Had the best time playing Five Fires tonight!

Had the best time playing Five Fires tonight! I planned out a little story arc that really hit home for me. I played MC Clamor, who’s small problem was being teased at school for wearing baggy clothes and big problem was trying to get out of the neighborhood by breaking into the music biz. The secret though, was that they were gender fluid and though they were born female, chose to present male. Only with the final art scene did they take off their cap and reveal their long hair while singing “Breakout Remix”, which I wrote three verses of myself in order to convey the reveal. A cathartic song that would have them break into the scene as themselves, or not. Either way the catharsis was enough! Luckily they succeeded!

The neat thing is the other players read these verses and then tell YOU what they think the song is about and the mechanics follow. Really, really, cool. Here’s the verses I came up with during play to try and convey that headspace.

“I’m proud to swing back and forth as I like like a pendulum.”

“You’ll never cast me in the role of a lifetime ’cause I’m never down to be told who I am”

“Cast me aside and I’ll only forget you, so you best love me like you outta know I do you.”

This game was sooooo cool. I loved the way you make art in the game, especially setting up such a powerful scene like that. I told myself to try something new and wanted a story arc in just two sessions that meant a lot and pushed me. Got a lot of pay off and I think the other players dug it as well, who were all phenomenal. Richard Rogers was our opposition. River Williamson was S.O.V, a DJ. And Jason Cox was Bridge, who’s art was graffiti.

Here’s a pic of MC Clamor
