Name of God – nano, safety net free, dark, optimistic, fragmented. Over all enjoyable and challenging. I think the key words in the text should be viewed with a synonym lens. YG Mitchell Johannes Oppermann Isa Wills. I thought people might like to read our impressions.

It was this beautiful twisted and surreal montage.
My character, The Glitch, was profoundly, tragically, lost . Stuck in a loop on a barren industrial soundstage.

(I loved it. We didn’t quite nail down the setting at the beginning and I think this led to the eyes really challenging the Seeker in each scene)

I need to get this to the table. My crew has very little LARP experience, though.

River Williamson We didn’t LARP it more than possible over hangouts. The whole game felt like a surrealist movie or a dream sequence.
My character was the spider, she had forgotten that she once was a god of order and connection and now she was all about ensnaring people and sucking them dry, emotionally.
We had three scenes each, not including transcendence scenes, and they were only connected with little recurring elements.
To conclude on one session, we decided that our gods could transcend after two ritual actions, not three. And we had two gods that transcended, and two that didn’t. Youan’s The Glitch was lost in a loop, mine missed his opportunity to remember.
The images and scenes were very vivid and dream-like. I would totally play it again.

I think my story was the most straight shooting of all of them. The Leaf – I read outcast and urban decay more widely from the setting information in the rules and went for a recluse stockbroker who was surrounded by drugs and debauchery (urban decay). It was a redemption story. To me they all had a feeling of a play about them (which was most closely realised in the glitch story). I think that’s because of the steps you go through to construct each scene. It was good! I’ll definitely be going more avant garde next time though!

Mine was the Garden. He/she/they/it was the embodiment of the desires of each mortal encountered. After a particularly harrowing second act my character became scornful and vengeful, culminating in a ritual to wipe out the unworthy (men). As YG Mitchell said at the end, it felt quite HBO 😉

It’s definitely a game I’d play again. I wasn’t totally happy with the way my last scene went. What I did like about it was how it ended up being chronologically before Eadwin Tomlinson opening scene (the very first scene of the game).

Thanks for the play reports.

I’m extremely happy that you liked #TheNameOfGod .
Thanks a lot for the reports too!
Is there by any chance a video or audio record of the game session? 😀

Sadly not but we have been talking about audio recording our sessions. So perhaps next time we play…

Isa Wills it would have been better with more explosions I think 😂 #ingamejoke

How is that an in-joke? Everything is better with more explosions.

I can’t agree more River Williamson however not everyone shares our view!

Not that I think about it… I’ve got a question!
Did you end up using the “mantra” rule as written?
Chanting during the Ritual actions? If so, how did it feel?
Or did you skip that bit? If so, why?

We did the mantra on the cards because they help the player focus on what the two key elements of their fetish are and it’s cool to refocus on the amazing cards. The Ooo-ing we tried but over hangouts it’s hard to get the feel I think you were aiming for and secondly the eyes who add the consequence elements need to think and sometimes it was too long to sustain it.

Yes there’s a unique separation, I think, playing online.
But the repetition of the words absolutely pushed the gravity and profundity of the moment.

I think it’s definitely something which will get easier and feel more natural the more we play the game. I agree with the guys when they say it’s probably something that is best served while playing face to face, but it still worked over hangout.
