  1. It is funny how, after playing DW, any game without a mixed result (success-with-complication) feels like it’s missing something. 🙂 Honestly though I think if you run TBH like you run DW, it would be solid. That’s how I ran Rad-Hack and it worked fine. I’m not sure I prefer it to the PbtA format, but it was cool. And I love the usage die for things. Pretty sure I’m going to port that over to DW for things like adventuring gear. Instead of “three uses,” for instance, you could just give someone’s backpack of gear a d8 or d6.

  3. I like black hack, I also think it does some neat things. I got the chance to play the Indie Hack and it’s the perfect marriage of OSR and Storygames, imo. GM never rolled in the session (love that), you roll a light and a dark die and depending on what you’re doing, you’re beating the target number on the other die. How much you are over or under means you can add details, which is what the primary mechanic of the game is. Details can be when you use your sword to slash someone and give the detail that they have a wound and are bleeding – to adding something to the scenery you want to use. The classes are really unique, there are relationships that tie you all together, you have a master you serve. It’s OSR by way of a focus on fictional positioning so it was totally great for us. Super great artwork too.

Edit: I added one of the other players review and the first two parts to our video recording to my wall for anyone who wants to check that out.

  5. I don’t think it’s generally for sale. I think the bundle of holding that I got it from was the only time it was available since its Kickstarter. It’s like Final Girl all over again!

  7. Thanks for introducing the Party of One podcast to me, Tim. I had a chance to listen to the first couple of episodes during a long drive today and it was very entertaining. The pacing and discussion are tight and flow very easily – much like PSP. The first two episodes were very silly, so I’m looking forward to seeing how a darker game like Cold Soldier will play out.

  9. Michael G. Barford Thanks for the note! It’s an admirable undertaking, Jeff pulling off that tight solo format! Let me know what you think of that Cold Soldier episode.
